Time magazine has published a list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023. Find out more about which Ukrainians made it to this year's list and who was there in 2022
Time magazine has published on its official website a list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2023, who were chosen in six categories: "Leaders", "Titans", "Innovators", "Icons", "Artists" and "Innovators".
This year's list includes two Ukrainian women - First Lady of Ukraine Olena Zelenska and Nobel Peace Prize winner Oleksandra Matviychuk. The Ukrainian women were selected in the Leaders category. Last year, two of the most influential Ukrainians were recognized in this category - President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valeriy Zaluzhnyy.
For two years in a row, Time magazine has named U.S. President Joe Biden and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz as "Leaders". Also in 2023, the category included former Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Democratic Leader of the House of Representatives Hakeem Jeffries, The Wall Street Journal journalist arrested in russia, US citizen Evan Hershkovich, and others.
Compared to the previous year, russian president vladimir putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping left the list.
The "Titans" in 2023 are American actress Angela Bassett; businesswoman, widow of Steve Jobs, Lauren Powell Jobs; football player Lionel Messi; engineer, entrepreneur and inventor Elon Musk, etc. Last year, this category was awarded to Apple CEO Tim Cook, European Central Bank President Christine Lagarde, and director of the South Korean TV series Squid Game Gwang Dong-hyuk, as well as Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Yeoh.
The Innovator status in 2023 was awarded to former President and CEO of The Walt Disney Company Bob Iger, journalist and media executive Sarah Kate Ellis, and French footballer Kylian Mbappe. In 2022, Sevgil Musayeva, editor-in-chief of Ukrayinska Pravda, and actress Zendaya were recognized in this category.
The American rapper and singer Dojo Keith, skier Michaela Shiffrin, and supermodel Bella Hadid were recognized as "innovators" in 2023. In 2022, the title was awarded to Stéphane Bancel, director of the Moderna pharmaceutical corporation, photographer Nan Goldin, and Chinese freestyle skater Eileen Gu.
American comedian Jennifer Coolidge, writer Salmani Rushdie, and British King Charles III were named the 2023 "idols". The idols of 2022 were Dmitry Muratov, editor-in-chief of the russian newspaper Novaya Gazeta, British singer Adele, and Spanish tennis player Rafael Nadal.
Actors and actresses Michael B. Jordan, Colin Farrell, Drew Barrymore, Ali Wong, and Austin Butler became the Artists of the Year in 2013, replacing last year's winners: actresses Mila Kunis and Sarah Jessica Parker and actor Channing Tatum.
