Ukraine can surprise not only with the volume of crops grown, but also with exotic plants that are quite unusual for the local climate. Find out about the most exotic plantations in Ukraine where gastronomic wonders are grown
Ukraine is famous for the fertility of its black soil, and it is no secret that Ukrainian crops feed people around the world. At the same time, few people know that Ukrainians have learned to grow not only vegetables and fruits typical of the local climate, but also exotic plants that you would not expect to see in Eastern Europe. The most exotic plantations in Ukraine are described in our article.
Traditional Chinese red oolong from Zakarpattia
It turns out that not only crops and delicious grapes for wine are grown in Zakarpattia, but also real leaf tea. The only tea plantation in Ukraine, Mount Zhornina-Chervona Hora, is located not far from Mukachevo. The first planting of tea leaves took place here back in 1949, and at the time of the plantation's creation, it was the northernmost tea plantation in all of Europe, and today it is one of the most frost-resistant tea crops in the world, withstanding temperatures as low as -26 degrees.
In addition, today the plantation grows not only traditional loose leaf tea, but also semi-fermented and fully fermented teas of various varieties.

Banana farm near Lviv
For several years now, the village of Lipnyky, located 10 kilometers from Lviv, has been growing real exotic miracles for the Ukrainian land. In particular, bananas, kumquats, lemons, limes, pomegranates, kiwis, papayas, coffee trees, and many other plants. In total, the greenhouses, which were built using Dutch technology, have about 30 species of exotic plants. Some of them grow to a height of about 4 meters.
In addition, farmers not only sell Ukrainian exotics, but also make unique delicacies from the plants. For example, craft banana liqueur is particularly popular because of its uniqueness.

Citrus plantation near Kyiv
The owner of a citrus farm started his career growing exotic fruits on his balcony, and today specialized thermo-greenhouses in Germany are built using his technology. For example, in the village of Rozhny, Kyiv region, huge lemons, unusual white pomegranates, and miniature banana trees are now grown. However, this is not a complete list of exotic plants that can be found on the farm.
In addition, the plantation has a unique feature: it is submerged in the ground and divided into two parts with different temperatures and humidity. In the first part of the farm, the climate is subtropical, and in the second part, it is tropical.

Ukrainian kiwi in the Carpathians
Today, the Carpathian kiwi plantation has grown to a global scale, as Ukrainian fruit seedlings are bought not only within Ukraine but also in the United States, Armenia, Slovakia, Hungary, and Moldova. The Carpathian Stratona Valentine kiwi variety has amazing frost resistance, yet it does not differ from the usual fruit in appearance or taste. In addition, the owner of the plantation is actively working on developing other varieties of kiwi, including yellow kiwi.

Kharkiv passion fruit
Not far from the front line, there is an exotic fruit plantation owned by Ukrainian Doctor of Agricultural Sciences Serhiy Avramenko. Despite its close proximity to the line of contact and constant shelling, in 2022 the plantation yielded an unprecedented harvest of Ukrainian passion fruit. In addition, the plantation grows oranges, tangerines, lemons, limes, pomegranates, jujube, zhminda (a variety of spinach), and figs.
