Travelling in the Carpathians in summer attracts many travellers who want to enjoy the majestic mountains, green meadows and enchanting landscapes. Interesting folklore, rich history and traditions have made travelling to the Zakarpattia region one of the most popular tourist destinations in Ukraine.
We're going to tell you which locations were named the most favourite by the Transcarpathian Regional State Administration's Tourism Department, as well as how the tourism tax revenue figures changed in 2023.

The most popular places in Transcarpathia
The Department of Tourism and Resorts of the Zakarpattia Regional State Administration has published a fresh report on the most popular locations among tourists visiting this graceful region in the summer.
Over the past 11 years, the priority destinations for outdoor recreation in the warm season have been:
● Mukachevo (castle, monastery);
● Synevyr (lake, museums in Kolochava, brown bear rehabilitation centre);
● Uzhhorod (castle, mini-sculptures);
● Kosyno, Berehove, Velyatino thermal baths;
● resorts "Sunny Transcarpathia", "Kvitka Polonyny", "Shayan", "Derenivska Kupil", "Karpaty";
● trips to the mountains (Hoverla, Pip Ivan, Borzhava meadows, Runa meadow);
● various tastings (Perechyn Manufactory, Selyshche Cheese Factory, Tsypa, Honey House);
● other destinations: Shypit Waterfall, Nevytsky Castle, Chynadiyevo Castle, Schönborn Palace, Voyevodyno (Schönborn Park), Perechyn, Khust (castle, Narcissus Valley).
According to the June report of the Tourism Development Agency, the highest willingness to travel in Ukraine - 84% - is among Kyiv residents. The readiness of residents of other regions is 80%. At the same time, women aged 18-35 are more active tourists than men.

How tourism tax rates have changed in different regions of Ukraine
The State Agency for Tourism Development analysed the dynamics of tourist tax revenues in January-March this year.
Ten regions of Ukraine recorded an increase in tax revenues in the first three months of the year:
● Chernivtsi region - the largest increase of 98%. This year's payment to the budget amounts to UAH 5 million 152 thousand (for the same period in 2022, the tax amounted to UAH 2 million 600 thousand);
● Rivne region - an increase of 17%. The share of tax paid from accommodation facilities increased from UAH 2 million 938 thousand to UAH 3.5 million;
● Lviv region - by 16% more. UAH 60 million 434 thousand was paid to the state budget, and in 2022 - UAH 52 million 59 thousand;
● Zakarpattia region - an increase of 15% (UAH 16 million 842 thousand against UAH 14 million 629 thousand paid last year);
● Zhytomyr region - 16% more (UAH 2 million 279 thousand);
● Khmelnytskyi and Dnipropetrovska oblasts - 4% increase;
● Volyn region - a slight increase of 2% (UAH 2 million 503 thousand);
● Vinnytsia region - an increase of 1%;
● Kirovohrad region - a slight increase in tourism taxes (UAH 2 million 291 thousand against UAH 2 million 290 thousand).
Tax revenues from tourism decreased the most in the six regions located in the combat zone:
● Luhansk region by 100%;
● Kherson region by 97%;
● Donetsk region by 87%;
● Zaporizhzhia by 79%;
● Mykolaiv region - 67%;
● Kharkiv region by 54%.
A decrease in tax revenues compared to 2022 was also observed in the following regions:
● Odesa region - a decrease of 37%;
● Ternopil region - by 23%;
● Prykarpattia region - by 9%;
● Chernihiv region - by 33%;
● Sumy region - by 16%;
● Poltava region - by 8%;
● Cherkasy region - by 13%;
● Kyiv region - by 15%.
