Recent events have made the world talk about how the United States and Americans are tired of the war and are reducing their support for Ukraine. But is this really true? Learn more about how US citizens are helping Ukraine by personally traveling to the country during the war
In light of recent events in Ukraine and the world, the information space has been filled with narratives that the West and the United States in particular are tired of the war in Ukraine and that the level of their support will no longer be what it used to be. In addition, each of us has probably seen loud headlines that Americans are exhausted by the war and are against Ukraine. But is this really true?
The article below explains how US citizens help Ukraine not only in words but also in deeds and what steps they are willing to take to support Ukrainians.
The humanitarian mission of Americans in Ukraine during the war
In September, Visit Ukraine and its partners launched a new unique project - donation tours to Ukraine, which allows foreigners not only to visit the de-occupied regions of the country but also to become real volunteers and part of Ukraine's victory.
Our project aims to involve as many caring people as possible in supporting Ukraine and Ukrainians. And one of the first to join this humanitarian mission was a US citizen, including a hedge fund trader, Mr. John Thomas.
John Thomas is a Vietnam veteran, a former pilot who has been to almost all the hot spots of the world. He also worked as a journalist under the pseudonym Randolph Bronte and as a correspondent for The Economist and The Financial Times.
In a personal conversation, John Thomas shared that he came to Ukraine to see with his own eyes the Ukrainian struggle and the consequences of the russian invasion, as he is very supportive of Ukraine and has a strongly negative attitude towards russia.
In addition, John Thomas wanted to make a personal contribution to supporting Ukraine, and that is why he decided to go on a humanitarian mission, including to the de-occupied regions of the south of the country.
Together with John Thomas, a well-known doctor, Dr. David Fillmore, came to Ukraine to help Ukrainian hospitals and doctors. They noted that the preparation for the trip lasted several months, but the most difficult stage of the humanitarian mission was the road to Ukraine. However, despite the difficulties, they believe that they have fulfilled all their goals, and the trip itself met their expectations.

How did Mr. John Thomas and Dr. David Fillmore contribute to supporting Ukraine?
During the humanitarian mission, our guests visited Kyiv and the de-occupied cities of Kyiv region, as well as Mykolaiv and the de-occupied villages of Mykolaiv region. As part of the donation tour to Ukraine, they visited Ukrainians from the frontline regions as real volunteers and distributed humanitarian aid, as well as had the opportunity to personally communicate with eyewitnesses of the russian invasion. In addition, John Thomas noted that he had seen the military and was impressed by the way the army works on the eastern front.
Dr. David Fillmore also made a separate significant contribution to the support of Ukrainian hospitals. In addition to talking to Ukrainian doctors, sharing his experience and arranging for remote communication with them to help with consultations in the future, he said he intends to help hospitals with the necessary equipment and has already started raising funds to purchase contrast injectors for MRI.
In total, John Thomas has donated $2,500 to Ukrainian hospitals, but he and David Fillmore will continue to raise funds to help Ukraine in the United States and plan to come to Ukraine with a new humanitarian mission in the spring of 2024.
