A large number of famous sites and attractions will become inaccessible to tourists in 2024. Find out which world places will be temporarily closed for repairs and renovations, and which will close their doors to visitors forever
Global crises, natural disasters, and even overcrowding with tourists affect cities, locations, and popular sites on a daily basis. Thus, some cultural and architectural monuments are forced to close for restoration and repair, and some, after many years of work, close their doors to visitors forever.
We will tell you which world-famous locations will be closed to tourists in the article below with a link to CNN so that everyone can plan their vacation in 2024.
Elephant Trunk Rock, Taiwan
Unfortunately, one of the most popular locations on the northeast coast of the island has been destroyed forever. At the end of 2023, the elephant trunk rock collapsed into the sea due to soil erosion. So, tourists will no longer be able to take photos near this unique place.
Leonardo da Vinci's vineyard, Milan
This place has been popular with tourists for 50 years, but the remains of the Italian vineyard were bought by a billionaire into private ownership. At the same time, Bernard Arnault did not make any statements that tourists would be able to visit this location. Therefore, unfortunately, Leonardo Da Vinci's vineyards will most likely never receive visitors again.
Notre Dame, Paris
After the fire in 2019, Notre Dame Cathedral was closed for reconstruction. After heated discussions and arguments, it was decided to return the 850-year-old monument to its original appearance and not to introduce any modern reconstructions. Thus, the reopening of Notre Dame is planned for the end of 2024, and therefore, perhaps in December, tourists will be able to visit the world-famous cathedral again.

Smithsonian Castle, Washington, DC
The modernization of the main building of the museum complex in Washington began in 2023 and will last for about 4 years. So, in 2024, tourists will be able to see this place only during digital tours.
Pompidou Center, Paris
At first glance, the modern Parisian museum has been welcoming visitors for more than 60 years, which is why it is closing for renovation after the Summer Olympics in Paris. According to preliminary data, the institution will not receive visitors until 2030.
Hyatt Park, Tokyo
In 2024, the Park Hyatt, considered the first Western-style hotel in the Japanese capital, will celebrate its 30th anniversary, and on this occasion it will be closed for renovation work until 2025. However, tourists are warned that the hotel itself will close in May, and the rooftop bar will close earlier in January.
Pergamon Museum, Berlin
As part of the modernization project, the Pergamon Museum will be closed until 2027. However, after the opening, tourists will be able to see new locations (exhibition halls and pedestrian areas). At the same time, you can see the exhibits from the Pergamon Museum while the renovation is underway at the Das Panorama museum nearby.
Splash Mountain, USA
One of the most famous Disneyland attractions, Splash Mountain, will be closed in California and Florida. Visitors will no longer be able to see it in the form it had all this time, because the attraction will be opened in a new format and under the new name "Tiana's Adventure", which is based on the movie "The Princess and the Frog".
Phantom of the Opera, New York
The last show of the Phantom of the Opera was performed in 2023. Thus, after 35 years of work and almost 14,000 performances, the cult musical is closing. As noted, it was the longest-running show of all Broadway productions.

Noma, Copenhagen
The Copenhagen restaurant, which is one of the best in the world, has officially announced that it will suspend its operations in 2024. Instead, after a year off, they will welcome visitors again, but in a new format - instead of new Scandinavian cuisine, they will prepare innovative cuisine dedicated to food innovation and the development of new flavors.
