Traveling to Ukraine is not only an opportunity to enjoy the beauty of its historical monuments and the hospitality of local residents, but also a responsibility to your own safety. In today's world, no one is immune to unforeseen situations, so it is important to be prepared for any circumstances, including medical and other emergencies.

In addition, given that a full-scale war is still going on in Ukraine, it is necessary to think about the importance of insurance, which should also cover war risks. Read more about the importance and benefits of insurance with extended coverage in the article below.

Why is it important for foreigners to have Ukrainian insurance?

There are several reasons for this, but the most important one is that due to the martial law in Ukraine, any foreign insurance policy automatically terminates upon entry into the territory of Ukraine. This is due to the fact that insurance companies do not cover war-related risks in any country where military operations or armed conflicts are ongoing.

According to Ukrainian law, foreigners and stateless persons may cross the state border to enter Ukraine if they have an insurance policy (certificate) for the entire period of stay in Ukraine issued by an insurance company registered in Ukraine or a foreign insurance company that has a representative office or contractual relationship with an insurance company - a partner in Ukraine.

In addition, in case of unforeseen situations, issues with the Ukrainian insurance company are resolved on the spot, which significantly speeds up the process of seeking assistance and eliminating problems. Thus, using Ukrainian insurance, you can easily and quickly get the help you need. Ukraine provides a wide range of services and flexible options for insured events, which makes the process of applying to medical institutions as convenient as possible for you. And by purchasing a policy covering war risks, you get additional security and protection in case of unforeseen situations due to passive war risks.

For whom is an insurance policy covering war risks mandatory for entry into Ukraine?

Ukrainian legislation defines a list of categories of citizens for whom high-risk insurance is mandatory. This applies to:

– foreign journalists
– volunteers
– members of non-profit organizations.

What coverage does the war risk insurance policy provide?

When planning a trip to Ukraine, foreigners can take out a regular health insurance policy that will cover a standard list of cases and services. However, given the increased risks, it is advisable to take care of extended coverage.

Insurance with war risk coverage includes standard health insurance coverage and additionally covers the risks of war. Thus, the insurance covers:

1. Diagnosis and treatment of COVID-19, including the costs of compulsory observation. Currently, there are no restrictions on coronavirus infection in Ukraine, but in case of illness, the insured person will be able to receive diagnosis, treatment and other necessary medical services within the policy coverage.
2. Outpatient treatment (visit to a doctor, consultation, examination, etc.), medicines (prescribed by a doctor) and hospitalization (stay in an intensive care unit, intensive care unit, purchase of medicines, etc.)

3. Emergency dental care. In particular, in case of acute toothache that requires emergency dental care for medical reasons (assistance is provided within the established limits).

4. Emergency obstetric care. It is provided on medical grounds in case of threat to the life and health of the insured person, but provided that the gestation period is up to 29 weeks.

5. Repatriation of the insured person (or his/her body in case of death) from the place of stay to the place of his/her permanent residence.

6. Accidents, injuries and deaths that may occur as a result of military operations, passive military risks, terrorist acts (if the insured person is not a military servant).

The insurance policy is valid throughout Ukraine, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Luhansk, Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia regions and the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, as well as the territories of direct combat operations (front line).
