In 2023, the Czech Republic changed the rules and conditions for extending temporary protection for Ukrainians. The first stage, namely registration on the Ministry of Internal Affairs portal, began in January 2024 and ended on March 15 this year. According to proukrainu.blesk.cz, the second stage is currently underway, which requires a personal visit to the office of the Ministry of the Interior to affix a visa to the passport. Ukrainians who affix a visa sticker to their passports will receive an extension of temporary protection until March 31, 2025.

How to obtain an extension of protection in the Czech Republic and what is required for this is described further in the article.

Read here to find out how long you can leave the Czech Republic without losing your benefits, housing and temporary protection in 2024.

What documents do you need to have to get your visa affixed at the Ministry of the Interior?

When planning a visit to the office of the Ministry of the Interior, you need to prepare the following package of documents:

1. A valid foreign passport (if available) or other identity document;

2. Confirmation of accommodation. This document can be:

Confirmation of residence (potvrzení o zajištění ubytování): written confirmation of residence must be signed by the owner or authorized user of the apartment/real estate. Important: if the accommodation is provided by an individual, use the form for individuals, if the accommodation is provided by a legal entity, use the form for legal entities;

Written confirmation of the availability of housing (doklad (potvrzení) o zajištění ubytování): the signature of the owner of the apartment/real estate or an authorized person who manages this housing must be officially certified;

Lease or sublease agreement: a certified signature is not required. It is noted that the documents will be attached to the case file, so the Ministry of Internal Affairs recommends submitting a certified copy of the agreement.

If the confirmation is not signed by the property owner, a document confirming the relationship between the property owner and the person who signed the confirmation must be submitted (e.g., a power of attorney from the owner or a certified copy of the contract).

Please note! A separate proof of residence must be provided for each family member (both adults and children). At the same time, if a person lives in state humanitarian housing, no proof of residence is required.

What documents are required for a child under 15 years of age to get a visa?

As noted, children under the age of 15 do not need to be present in person when submitting documents. However, in this case, parents or guardians must submit a recent passport-size photo of the child along with the documents.

Thus, to submit documents for a child, you must provide

– a document confirming and authorizing the representation of a person under the age of 15 (birth certificate, affidavit (handwritten certification), etc;)

– a passport-size photo.

We remind you! Citizens of Ukraine who enjoy temporary protection in the Czech Republic will have the opportunity to obtain a long-term residence permit in the country. This will allow them to legalize their status and establish a stable foundation for their future in this country. Read more about the changes in our previous article.
