The second round of elections to the lower house of parliament has been held in France. According to the results, the ultra-left New People's Front won first place. We tell you how this will affect the politics of France and why this result for President Macron is better than the outcome of the first round.

Thus, according to the results of the second round, the following parties are in Parliament:

- "New Popular Front" - 182 seats in Parliament;

- "Together!" - 168 seats;

- "National Union" - 143 seats;

- "Republicans" - 63 seats.

In total, there are 577 seats in the French parliament in all. The remaining seats will be distributed among other candidates.

What do the election results tell us?

The election results show that French voters decided to give most of the parliamentary seats to the left-wing coalition. However, there is no clear majority (289 seats) there, so parties are likely to start looking for a coalition.

As for coalition options, French President Emmanuel Macron's "Together!" party may try to unite with leftist forces from the New Popular Front. Such negotiations, if they take place, are expected to be very difficult, as France has no tradition of such agreements.

If such a coalition still cannot be concluded, the President could appoint a government of experts not affiliated with political parties. Such a government would likely handle the day-to-day affairs of keeping France functioning.

Given that neither party has a majority, the figure of a possible future prime minister is also absent. Macron says he will wait to decide what to do next with the prime minister's chair. Although current Prime Minister Gabriel Attal has said he will resign on Monday, but is willing to remain in his post until a new government is formed.

Macron got lucky

The first round of parliamentary elections in France showed how much citizens' trust in the presidential party has fallen. After the first round, it was believed that the far-right forces led by Le Pen had guaranteed themselves first place.

The victory of the "National Union" could lead to uncertainty of France's position in the russian-Ukrainian war. According to media reports, Marine Le Pen has a history of pro-russian sentiment.

Le Pen is in opposition to Macron, and if, she managed to get a majority of seats in Parliament, the policy of the French President would clearly face obstacles and other political confrontations.

We remind you! The first round of the extraordinary elections to the Parliament of France was held after the President of the country Macron announced the dissolution of Parliament. This was a consequence of the loss of Macron's party in the elections to the European Parliament. How the first round of elections in France ended and what to expect from the far-right, who are called the clear favourites, read here.
