In 2024, Ukraine will introduce a ban on visiting a number of tourist destinations in the Carpathian Mountains. This restriction applies not only to the areas adjacent to the border zone, but also to certain mountain ranges and natural sites located in Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi and Zakarpattia regions. We will tell you more about the tourist locations that cannot be visited at the moment in the article.

We told you earlier what curfews are in effect in different regions of Ukraine in 2024.

Which mountains can be climbed: authorized routes

Tourists have access to routes that were not included in the list of prohibited ones. The popular peaks such as Hoverla, Petros, Hutyn Tomnatyk, Rebra, Spikes, Svydovets Ridge, Dragobrat, Hamster, Makovytsia, Dovbush Rocks, Sinyachka, and Yavirnyk-Gorgan remain among the permitted climbs. All these routes are safe for tourists, but it is worth remembering the need to follow the general rules of behavior in the mountains and safety.

Assistant Head of the Chernivtsi Border Guard Detachment, Lieutenant Colonel Ihor Zarudnev, commented to Channel 24 that all territories within the border zone can be visited only with the written permission of the relevant detachment head. This means that if your route passes through the border zone, you should get permission in advance to avoid problems. We've covered the details of how to get a permit to stay in the border zone before.

At the same time, the mountains and other locations that were listed as prohibited in the annexes to the order of the head of the border guard detachment are absolutely prohibited for tourism. And not all of them are part of the border zone. According to Zarudnev, even if a tourist sends an application for permission to visit such locations, they will be denied.
