On September 20, 2024, Ukraine will traditionally join the World Cleanup Day under the slogan “Let's Make Ukraine Clean Together!”. This year's event will be special, as since 2024 World Cleanup Day has been declared an official UN Day, which is now celebrated annually on September 20. According to the website of the all-Ukrainian movement Let's do it Ukraine, this day has become the largest peaceful mobilization event in the world, involving more than 90 million participants from 211 countries.

The main goal of World Cleanup Day in Ukraine

The organizers aim to create a culture of cleanliness, proper waste management and responsible consumption among Ukrainians. Through their collective efforts, participants help build a sustainable global future and fight against solid waste. At a time when safety is a priority, all actions must comply with safety standards and take into account the geographical features of the regions.

How to participate?

The organizers offer different participation formats:

1. Individual and family clean-ups - cleaning up in their communities or in areas authorized by local governments.

2. Collective cleaning - cleaning on the territories of institutions and organizations with a limited number of participants and checking the safety of the territories.

3. Digital cleaning (online) - deleting unnecessary information from your gadgets and cloud storage to reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. To participate, you need to register your results on the organizers' website.

4. Formation of the National Map of Recycling Collection Points - sorting and delivery of recyclable materials for recycling.

5. Debris removal - assistance in clearing the territories affected by military operations.

Ukrainians living abroad can also join in by organizing online or offline cleanups, thanking the host cities and supporting their hometowns.

The organizers urge not only to join the global cleaning initiative, but also to register the results of their participation by September 25. This can be done on the international website or by following the link. This is important to confirm the national results and receive a certificate of participation online.

Security measures and restrictions

Due to the possible risks posed by a full-scale invasion, participants are urged not to create massive crowds, to participate only in cleanups at recommended and authorized locations, and to undergo safety instructions beforehand. In case of an alarm, they are asked to immediately go down to the shelter.
