Table of contents
The first state Ukrainian-Hungarian school has opened in Budapest. Ukrainian refugees and children who intend to study the school programme in the Ukrainian language will be able to study there. Find out how the educational process will take place there
The first Ukrainian-Hungarian bilingual school and gymnasium, which is not an ethnic school and will operate under Hungarian law but with Ukrainian culture, has started operating in the Hungarian capital Budapest.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy has already spoken about the grand opening of the school. According to him, about 400 Ukrainian children have become students of the institution: they are taught in both Ukrainian and Hungarian.
How will the educational process take place?
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine reported that the educational process will be conducted in the native Ukrainian language from grades 1 to 12, and the programme will include the study of Hungarian and English as foreign languages. The school will be financed from the Hungarian state budget.
More details were provided by Liliana Greks, the parliamentary advocate for Ukrainian nationalities in Hungary.

First of all, the school will accept children of refugees from Ukraine who want to study in their native language in a five-day educational institution. However, other children may also be admitted.
As for the teachers, most of them are Ukrainian refugees, but there are also Hungarian citizens among the teachers. During the selection process, the candidates were carefully considered, as the requirements were knowledge of both Hungarian and Ukrainian.
It is important that the school will follow the Hungarian curriculum with Ukrainian subjects adapted to it.
Graduates of the school will be able to receive a certificate recognised by the Hungarian state. With this certificate, they will be able to continue their education in this country.
We remind you! Starting from 21 August, free housing in Hungary will be provided only to certain categories of Ukrainian refugees. Read more about the new conditions of subsidised housing and who will be able to benefit from this assistance here.
