The UK will introduce an entry fee for the country starting from 2025. Thus, tourists will have to pay to visit the United Kingdom. How much it will cost and who exactly will have to pay the fee, we tell you with reference to CNN.

As explained by the UK Home Secretary Yvette Cooper, the new rules provide for the expansion of the electronic travel authorisation (ETA) system, which was initially introduced for Qatari citizens and now applies to all other travellers, including citizens of the European Union.

Who will have to pay for entry to the UK and how much?

The £10 fee will apply to all visitors, including infants and children, who do not have a visa or residence, work or study permit in the UK.

Currently, citizens of Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates are already required to apply for ETA before entering the United Kingdom.

Thus, Ukrainians living legally in the UK with temporary protection status will not have to pay the fee.

When will the fee be introduced?

In November, this requirement will be extended to most other countries, including the US, but not Europeans. In the spring, the programme will be expanded to include citizens of the European Union.

The new rules will not apply to Irish citizens.

It should be noted that such fees are not new. The ESTA electronic travel authorisation system in the United States, which currently costs $21 and is valid for two years, was introduced in 2009.

We remind you! According to a recent report by the British Red Cross, thousands of Ukrainian refugees are at risk of homelessness. This highlights the need to improve the protection and resettlement scheme. Read more about the difficult situation of Ukrainian refugees in the UK here.
