Ukraine impresses with a variety of destinations that can rival popular European destinations. The medieval fortresses of Podillia, the thermal springs of Zakarpattia, the mountain peaks and waterfalls of the Carpathians—each region offers its own atmosphere and a unique experience. You can explore the country in any format: from a one-day trip to a full-fledged multi-day itinerary with guided tours, tastings, and active hikes.
We’ll tell you more about which tours to consider and exactly what travelers will see on each one in the article below.
Chernivtsi, Kamianets-Podilskyi, and the Carpathians in One Day
Western Ukraine is one of the country’s most diverse tourist destinations. It is home to UNESCO-listed historical sites, ancient fortresses, and picturesque natural locations that can easily be incorporated into a compact itinerary.
The three-day tour “Wonders of Podillia and Bukovina + Bakota” covers several iconic spots on the map at once. The first day is dedicated to Chernivtsi: travelers will see Turkish Square, stroll down Kobylianska Street, and visit the Residence of the Bukovinian Metropolitans—an architectural masterpiece that is part of Chernivtsi National University. On the same day, the route leads to the Khotyn Fortress, which is listed among the Seven Wonders of Ukraine. The second day is entirely devoted to Bakota—a rock monastery and a boat ride through the Dniester Canyon. The trip concludes with a sightseeing tour of Kamianets-Podilskyi: the old town, the fortress, and the Smotrych River Canyon.
For those who only have a day off, the “Carpathians in 1 Day” itinerary is a good fit. In a single trip from Lviv, travelers will have time to visit the Tustan rock fortress, take a chairlift up Mount Pohar for panoramic views of the Skole Beskids, and visit the Kamianka Waterfall. The tour is available in May with regular departure dates, so it’s easy to fit into your schedule.

Transcarpathia: Castles, Thermal Springs, and Lake Synevyr
The Transcarpathian region remains one of the most popular destinations for domestic tourism, and the reasons are clear: it combines historical architecture, culinary traditions, thermal resorts, and mountain scenery.
The four-day tour “Transcarpathia: Uzhhorod, Lake Synevyr, Shipit Waterfall, Thermal Springs, and Castles” begins in Mukachevo and gradually explores the region. The itinerary includes a tasting of Transcarpathian wines at the Chizay Winery, a visit to the Zhayvoronok thermal springs, a ride up Mount Makovytsia on a scenic cable car, and a tour of the brown bear rehabilitation center. A separate day is dedicated to Lake Synevyr and the Shipit Waterfall—both locations are listed among Ukraine’s natural wonders. The tour concludes in Uzhhorod: the castle, the embankment with Europe’s longest linden tree alley, the atmospheric Korzo Street, and the Czech Quarter.
An alternative option is the three-day “Transcarpathian Voyage” departing from Rivne or Lutsk. This itinerary focuses on the region’s castle heritage: the Schönborn Palace, St. Miklós Castle with its seven-century history, and Palanok Castle atop a long-extinct volcano. The second day is all about nature and gastronomy: the mineral springs of the villages of Kelechin and Soimy, Lake Synevyr, the Shipit Waterfall, and lunch at an authentic Hutsul kolyba. The third day of the itinerary is dedicated to the “Kosino” thermal complex with hot mineral pools nestled among a 200-year-old oak grove, Hungarian cuisine, and wine tasting at the Transcarpathian wine center.

Active recreation in the Carpathians: mountain trails, waterfalls, and an alpaca park
The Carpathians offer trails of varying difficulty levels — from easy weekend walks to full-fledged multi-day hikes with overnight stays in mountain lodges.
The “11 Friends of the Carpathians + Alpaca Park” tour combines active recreation with unique stops. Travelers will follow the Borzhava Ridge route with an ascent to Velykyi Verkh, visit the Synevyr Pass, the brown bear rehabilitation center, and Lake Synevyr. The itinerary also includes the Shipit and Kamianka waterfalls, Dead Lake (Zhuravlyne) with its mystical atmosphere of a forest swamp, and, for contrast, an alpaca park where you can feed the animals. In the evening, travelers can relax in a Carpathian hot tub and sauna, and among the unique activities is the chance to try playing the trembita.
For a shorter format, a weekend tour has been developed: “G. Kostel + Chemegivsky Canyon”.
The route starts in the Hutsul village of Mykulychyn and includes a visit to the Chemegivsky Canyon—a natural landmark featuring mountain cliffs and a river. Next is a 2.5-kilometer hike to the summit of Mount Kostel along a trail through the forest. At the summit, a panoramic view of the Carpathians unfolds, and on the slope there is a photogenic swing with a view of the mountains. The descent takes a different path, 4.5 kilometers long, so travelers will see the maximum of Carpathian landscapes in a single day.
