It is the iconic monument of Kyiv, it is made in the form of a huge three-layer rainbow, under which bronze figures of workers are placed. Nearby is a granite composition, it was made based on the Pereyaslav Rada. The monument is striking in its scale. The height of the sculptures is more than 6 meters, and the arch itself is 30 meters. The place is especially popular not only among residents but also tourists and guests of the city.

According to a legend, there was a sea, where the Dnipro now flows. Then the whole sea suddenly disappeared, when St. Andrew the First-Called came to Kyiv and placed a cross on the mountain where St. Andrew's Church now stands. But some part of it remained and hid under Andriivska Hora. A well was opened under the throne when a church was later built there. St. Andrew's Church does not have bells, because, according to legend, at the first strike the water would wake up and flood not only Kyiv but also the entire Left Bank. In addition, St. Andrew's Church is a church of the UAOC, where daily services, weddings, and baptisms are held. Now it is open for visits as a museum.

This historical area is located at the intersection of Khreshchatyk with three roads leading to Pechersk, Podol and the Upper Town, which has such a toponymic fate. If at the beginning of the 19th century the square was called Konnaya, it was because horse fairs were constantly held there. A theatre was built in 1806 (architect Melensky), and the square was transformed into the Theater Square. The theatre was demolished and the hotel was built in 1851 (architect Beretti), the square immediately turned into a European one, since the hotel was also called “European”.

Independence Square is located between seven central streets and is the main square of Kyiv. The square acquired its modern appearance after reconstruction in 2001, when Ukraine's first large underground shopping centre "Globus" was opened there, the Monument of Independence, a monument to the Founders of Kyiv, etc. were built there. Among other attractions on the square, there is the Lyad Gate, which is a copy of one of the gates that led to Ancient Kyiv; Zero Kilometer, which is a reference mark of the distance between the cities of Ukraine and the capitals of the world; P. Tchaikovsky National Academy of Music, which is the oldest advanced music university; Main Post Office, and House of Trade Unions. The square has an important political significance, several rallies and demonstrations took place there, including the Revolution on the Asphalt, the Orange Revolution, and the Revolution of Dignity.
