Illegal heating: why can't you install potbelly stove in apartments?
Every Ukrainian is currently concerned about the problem of heating and electricity supply. Winter is approaching, which means that heat in homes will soon become as necessary as oxygen. The government has consistently emphasized that this year's winter will be difficult and warns that there is a high probability of problems with heating.
Among the possible ways to insulate their home, some Ukrainians are seriously thinking about installing a potbelly stove in their apartment. However, such a heater is not only dangerous, but also illegal.
Will the potbelly stove help to heat the apartment in winter?
Such a stove is able to heat only one small room, because it gives very little heat and cannot fill the whole apartment with it.
Is it safe to install a potbelly stove in an apartment?
Definitely not. In multi-apartment buildings, the ventilation is not designed for such a large amount of carbon monoxide, which will be produced by the portable oven. Even if you lead the pipe from the stove to the window, there will be a very high probability of smoke poisoning.
In addition, in many houses, the thermal insulation of the floor is not done correctly, so it is only a matter of time whether your laminate or linoleum will catch fire from extremely high temperatures or from a spark flying out of the stove.
What is the penalty for installing a potbelly stove in an apartment?
Installing a fire extinguisher in an apartment is a violation of fire safety requirements and a criminal offense (Article 270 of the Code of Civil Procedure "Violation of fire or man-made safety requirements established by law"), for which administrative or even criminal liability is provided.
Such a decision is punishable by a fine in the amount of 1,000-4,020 of the tax-free minimum income of citizens or by correctional labor for up to two years, or by restriction of liberty/imprisonment for up to 3 years.
The same act, if it caused the death of people, property damage in a particularly large amount or other serious consequences, is punishable by imprisonment for a term of 3 to 8 years.
