Long-distance bus routes in Spain will be free from January 1, 2023. The Spanish government has stated that there is already a mechanism for free rail travel for regular passengers, and the same scheme should be extended to bus transportation.

From January 1, passengers with special passes will be able to ride long-distance buses for free.

A total of 79 bus routes in Spain will be free. Among the most popular bus routes that will be free in 2023 are Madrid-Segovia, Madrid-Guadalajara, Teruel-Barcelona and Santander-Bilbao-Barcelona.

Such measures aim to encourage people to leave their cars at home and use public transport. The network of intercity bus routes covers 2,400 cities in Spain, and the average length of trips is almost 900 kilometers.

We will remind you that earlier we wrote about how in Germany, children can travel by train for free. Details at the link.
