The USA will start paying pensions and also provide health insurance to Ukrainians who arrived in the country after the war began. Find out in more detail what new assistance the country's government will provide and what documents are required to receive it

Retirees from Ukraine who arrived in the U.S. after the outbreak of full-scale war will be able to receive the government's Supplemental Security Income (SSI) pension. This was reported by the Office of Refugee Resettlement of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

SSI is a government pension paid to low-income people over age 65 and people with disabilities.

What amount of pension will be paid to Ukrainians?

The amount of the payment depends on the state in which the refugee resides. In 2023, the minimum will be $914 per month for a single person or $1,371 for a married couple.

Necessary documents for registration of pension

To apply, contact your nearest Social Security Administration office. You need to have with you:

• passport;

• form I-94;

• Social Security number (if available);

• information on income and available savings;

• information about the housing situation (lease contract or information about relatives with whom the applicant lives).

If you are applying for a disability pension, you must provide information about the diagnosis, treatment and contact details of doctors.

What benefits will be available to refugees from Ukraine in the USA?

Ukrainians who are not of retirement age can apply for federal benefits that will be effective within a year after receiving temporary protection status. You can get the following help:

1. Financial support through Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF);

2. Medical insurance through "Medicaid";

3. Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) food assistance.

In addition, the Office for Refugee Resettlement (ORR) helps with job search preparation and direct employment, supports English language learning and advises on obtaining medical assistance.

RULES FOR STAYING IN HOTELS

The simultaneous stay of visitors in the hotel lobby not more than one person per 10 square meters of serviceable area is allowed.

Persons can visit hotels and stay there (outside hotel room) only if they wear respirator or face mask (including homemade mask), so that the nose and mouth are covered.

Hotel guests are obliged to keep the 1.5 meters distance.

Online check-in making in advance is recommended to avoid queues at check-in to hotel.

Meals in hotels are provided through meals delivery service to rooms upon prior order or at hotel restaurants situated inside or in open areas, provided the distance of at least 1.5 meters between seats at adjacent tables.

Not more than 4 clients are allowed to stay at the table (excluding children under 14 years old). Unless these tables are separated by a special partition;

Self-serve is not allowed.
