Because of the terrible war, thousands of Ukrainians had to leave their homes and seek safe haven abroad. Today, in all corners of the world, Ukrainians are waiting for the end of the brutal war in order to return home.


On par with other big cities, the Spanish province of Cantabria also generously helps Ukrainian refugees.


On December 9, 2022, the local authorities of Cantabria agreed on an order approving the relevant rules, thanks to which the procedure for providing financial assistance to Ukrainians in need of financial assistance and living in Cantabria, who had to use the status of temporary protection due to russia's attack on Ukraine, will be regulated.


How to apply for financial aid in Cantabria?


The corresponding application can be made on the official website of the Government of Cantabria. For this you need:


• Go to the site;

• Select the part "atención a la ciudadanía 012";

• Go by the title "subvensiones y ayudas".


It is also noted that the application can be made in person at calle Lealtad 12, 39002, Santander.


The Council for Universities, Equality, Culture and Sports was identified as the body responsible for applications.


Please note that applications are only accepted until January 13, 2023.


Spain became one of the countries that provided the most protection to Ukrainians: statistics


More than 160,000 Ukrainian refugees found temporary shelter in Spain. According to published data, from March 10 to December 28, Spain granted 160,756 temporary protection statuses to Ukrainians. This makes Spain one of the countries that provided the greatest protection to citizens of Ukraine.


According to published data, women make up 63.47 percent of people granted temporary protection in Spain, a total of 102,034 people, while men make up 36.53 percent, or 58,722 people to be exact.


Statistics by age showed that 33.69% were minors, 25.33% were aged 19 to 35, 34.17% were aged 36 to 64, and 6.8% were over 65.


It is also noted that among the people who received protection, 98.31 percent are people of Ukrainian nationality, and 1.69 percent are citizens of other nationalities who lived on the territory of Ukraine at the time the war began.


The communities with the highest number of temporary protections granted are Valencia with 42,739 protections, Catalonia with 36,641, Madrid with 22,963 and Andalusia with 22,939 protections granted.
