Ukrainian citizens who want to visit Mexico must obtain a tourist visa online before arriving in the country. When flying to Mexico, tourist visas are authorized via the Sistema de Autorización Electrónica (SAE). The visa is called an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) in English.

We will cover everything Ukrainian citizens need to know in this complete guide to applying for a Mexican ETA

What is a Mexico ETA?

A Mexico ETA is simply a tourist visa issued online. It removes the need to apply through a Mexican consulate and is currently available to citizens of Ukraine, Russia, and Turkey.

A Mexican ETA is free to all applicants and usually provides an instant decision, although some applications may take longer if subject to review.

For the most up-to-date application information, including how to apply using a Chroma browser VPN (Virtual Private Network), visit the website of the Mexican Embassy in Ukraine.

An ETA is exclusively for travelers arriving in Mexico by air. Check if your chosen airline participates in the scheme, as your documents should be checked before departure.

When crossing the land border or arriving by boat, Ukrainian citizens must apply for a visa through a Mexican consulate.

In addition to the ETA visa, all visitors to Mexico must complete a Mexico Tourist Card or Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM). An FMM is a short form provided on all flights into Mexico and can be completed just before arrival.

You can complete an FMM while flying into Mexico. For other points of entry, you can obtain an FMM online.

What is required to get a Mexican ETA?

An ETA is primarily for tourists. However, the visa is also accepted for business, study, medical, and transit purposes. It is not suitable for paid work in Mexico.

All Ukrainian citizens must have a passport valid for at least 6 months after the date of entry into Mexico when applying for an ETA.

Additionally, Ukrainian citizens may need to submit documentary evidence about their travel plans. This typically includes:

    • Hotel reservations

    • A return ticket for departing Mexico within 180 days

    • A letter of invitation when staying with friends, family, or another host

You may also need to confirm a source of funds (solvency) that covers all your costs while in Mexico. Bank statements, credit card funds, proof of cash, or other forms of financial security are considered.

If you travel to Mexico for business or education, you must provide relevant documents that confirm your intention and that your visit will not exceed 180 days. Valid documents can include confirmation of acceptance on an education course or relevant business documents.

You will be informed when applying if supporting documents are required. In this case, your application will suspend until all requested documents are submitted online.

Finally, while no Covid-19 restrictions currently apply for travel to Mexico, you may be asked to complete a health risk assessment form. You can be referred to a healthcare professional on arrival if a risk is identified.

Do Ukrainian Visitors Need a Mexican ETA?

Most visitors from Ukraine must have a valid Mexican visa to enter the country.

Ukrainian citizens do not require an ETA if they are permanent residents or hold a multi-entry visa for the following countries and regions:

    • European Union Schengen Area countries

    • United Kingdom

    • Japan

    • Canada

    • USA

    • Pacific Alliance countries (Peru, Colombia, and Chile)

Mexico's Entry Requirements from Ukraine

If your ETA application was successful, you should print the document and show it alongside your passport when boarding a flight to Mexico.

While your ETA is linked electronically to your passport and accessible by immigration authorities, you should also have your printed ETA document, current passport, and a completed Forma Migratoria Múltiple (FMM) ready for inspection.

If your ETA application is successful, you will receive immediate confirmation. Your visa will then be valid for 30 days from the date of issue and is valid for a single entry. If you plan to leave and re-enter Mexico, you must re-apply before returning to the country.

An active email address is required to receive your ETA and any updates affecting your visa application.

Applications must be completed using the Latin alphabet and match the details in your passport. Any errors could lead to rejection. If you make an error or need to change your arrival date, you should start a new application.

Sometimes, an ETA application is subject to review. You will be issued a tracking number and password and can check for updates via the “Tracking Application” (Відстеження моєї заяви) page.

You will receive an email if your ETA is denied. Contact the Mexican consulate in Ukraine (or your country of residence) for assistance if your trip is essential.

Validity of the Mexican ETA for Ukrainian Citizens

The ETA visa is an official document valid for all Ukrainian citizens. Once you have your ETA, you can travel confidently to Mexico and enjoy exploring one of the world’s most visited countries.

As you can see, an ETA application is quick and convenient for Ukrainian citizens. But immigration rules may change in the future. Check the Mexican Embassy in Ukraine (Embajada de México en Ucrania) for the most up-to-date guidance.
