The long-awaited counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces has not yet begun in earnest, and the russian army is already suffering huge setbacks at the front and facing disunity within its ranks. What is the reason for this, and what other problems are brewing in the ranks of putin's troops, is discussed in this article.

Drones explode over the kremlin. russian military aircraft crash before reaching Ukrainian airspace. The leader of russian mercenaries unleashes one profanity-laced tirade after another, claiming that corrupt russian generals who "smell like expensive perfume" are sending soldiers to their deaths.

And Ukraine's long-awaited counteroffensive had not even begun in earnest. It seemed that the russian army was facing hard times. However, their main problems are still ahead, writes the American edition of The New York Times.

According to the analysis of experts, the russians may soon face a lack of resources, disorganized defense and disunity in the ranks of the army.

russia's problems at the front

In eastern Ukraine, one of the bloodiest battles since the russian invasion, the battle for Bakhmut, has been going on for 10 months. Soldiers are being killed on both sides, but while the Ukrainian army is taking competent steps, the russians are counting on winning by numbers, which is why the russian army has suffered huge losses.

According to Bild, the battle for Bakhmut is currently coming to a climax, and the city is likely to fall in the coming days. At the same time, the publication notes that this settlement is no longer of any interest to the Ukrainian military, as the Armed Forces plan to surround Bakhmut and make it a cauldron for wagner mercenaries.

The situation around the city is currently developing in favor of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, as the Ukrainian military has managed to occupy strategically important heights around the settlement, which allows them to see the enemy's positions in the palm of their hands.

Problems of the military leadership of the russian federation

Due to the setbacks on the city's flanks, disunity has begun to set in among the russian troops. We have repeatedly heard the leader of the wagner PMC, Yevgeny Prigozhin, aggressively accuse the regular russian troops of running away and lack of ammunition. Prigozhin's aggression mostly targets russian generals, who, in his words, "enjoy life, while people (russian military - ed.) are naked, barefoot and hungry."

wagner's aggression is the first wake-up call for putin and company, as the next clear signs of problems in the russian army are observed in other parts of the front. These are as follows:

  • massive downing of russian aircraft over Bryansk;
  • destruction of hypersonic missiles "Kinzhal", which putin considered an achievement of russian missile engineering;
  • massive strikes with long-range missiles on the russian rear.

And this is only a part of the problems faced by russians in Ukraine.

Hostility within the russian army

The blatant public feud between Prigozhin and the russian Defense Ministry - and putin's apparent inability or unwillingness to stop it - has revived doubts about moscow's ability to succeed on the battlefield, where coordination between disparate units is crucial. The russian military has already been forced to retreat several times, and since last year it has been largely stalled along the 600-mile front line.

However, all these setbacks, according to analysts and russian businessmen, do not affect putin's mind. He is still committed to a war that could last for years.

The kremlin leader also likes influential groups to compete with each other. This may make sense in politics, but it is very, very harmful in a military operation, said Rob Lee, a senior fellow at the Foreign Policy Research Institute.

Given the gradual thickening of the colors over moscow, the problems hanging over the occupiers are likely to increase. And if the Ukrainian Armed Forces' counteroffensive is as successful as possible, the situation in the kremlin could get out of control, as russian elites are not used to constant criticism and defeat.

The whole world is waiting with bated breath for the counteroffensive of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. Why the Ukrainian Armed Forces have not yet launched an operation to de-occupy our territories and what to expect from the offensive, we explain here.
