Ukraine celebrates its 32nd anniversary of independence on August 24. Before the war, various events and celebrations were held in Kyiv and other cities of the country, but the full-scale invasion of russia has made its own adjustments. Here's how the Ukrainian capital will celebrate one of the most important days in the history of independent Ukraine.

In the pre-war period, Ukraine's Independence Day was accompanied by parades, fireworks and concerts. However, this year, for obvious reasons, there will be no such events.

How is Kyiv preparing for the holiday?

According to the Kyiv City Military Administration, from 23:00 on August 20 to 23:30 on August 28, traffic on Kyiv's main street, Khreshchatyk, will be blocked in the capital due to the preparation and holding of Independence Day celebrations.

The administration has warned that traffic on Khreshchatyk Street in the center of Kyiv will be blocked from Independence Square to Bohdan Khmelnytsky Street. Drivers were urged to take this information into account when traveling in the center of the Ukrainian capital.

What events are planned in Kyiv on Independence Day?

The Kyiv City State Administration previously noted that no mass events are planned in the capital this year. According to the KCSA representative, all events will be local.

At the national level, an exhibition of damaged enemy equipment is planned to be held on Khreshchatyk.

At the same time, on August 23, there will be celebrations to raise the national flag near the mayor's office.

The threat of russian attacks on the holidays

The threat of russian missile attacks on Ukrainian territory on Independence Day remains high.

According to Natalia Gumenyuk, a spokeswoman for the Southern Defense Forces of Ukraine, massive russian attacks are likely to take place during this period.

"This threat remains. Let me remind you that they can hit virtually any point on the territory of Ukraine even from the bay. And knowing our enemy's attraction to sacred dates, it is likely that during this period the threats will increase and massive attacks are possible, in particular with the use of surface and underwater missile launchers, strategic and tactical aviation, and attack drones," said Humeniuk.

She also noted that russian missile carriers are currently not on combat duty, which may indicate preparations for a massive attack on August 24.
