Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine has become a stimulating factor for increasing interest in Ukraine and Ukrainians among foreigners from different parts of the world. And if before the full-scale invasion in 2022, Ukraine was not in the global Google trends, after February 24, everything changed exactly the opposite.

So, what Google queries about Ukraine have become the most popular among foreigners and what topics are of most concern to the international community - we will tell you in the article below.

According to analytical statistics published on the Google Trends website, in 2022, Ukraine was among the top 5 queries in several categories at once for the first time.

In the "Search" category Ukraine ranked third. For comparison, the first place among the queries was for the game Wordle, and the second place was for "death of Queen Elizabeth II." Meanwhile, in the News category, Ukraine topped the list of leaders.

The peak period of global interest in Ukraine was between February 20 and March 5, i.e., the beginning of the russian invasion. According to analysts, most of the queries about the invasion of Ukraine were entered in English, French, and German.

It is also noted that along with the word "Ukraine", users most often used the following words:

- losses;

- human casualties;

- donations;

- refugees;

- war.

What did the media write about the russian invasion of Ukraine in 2023?

According to data published by Statista, the most commonly used combinations of keywords by global online media were related to sending weapons to Ukraine, Western sanctions against russia, and nuclear weapons.

In total, from February 2022 to July 2023, the combination of the words "Ukraine" and "weapons" in one text was mentioned in almost 1.8 million articles. It is noted that the United States, European Union (EU) institutions, and the United Kingdom provided the largest amount of military assistance to Ukraine.

As for the coverage of the topic of nuclear threats, in March 2023 alone, the words "russia", "Ukraine", "nuclear" and "war" were mentioned in more than 154 thousand articles in the media around the world. Analysts note that the number of articles online in March of this year mentioning nuclear weapons was the highest in the last six years.

Unfortunately, the trends of foreign interest in Ukraine remain almost the same as last year. However, we are confident that Ukrainian history, culture, the beauty of nature and cities, as well as the resilience and hospitality of Ukrainians will lead to no less of a "boom" in interest abroad after Ukraine wins this terrible war.

We remind you! The unexpected attack by Hamas on Israel and the escalation of the conflict by Libya, Syria, Iran and Palestine made the world think about the approach of a global war.
