According to Ihor Matviychuk, Deputy Chief of Staff, Head of the Border Control Organization Department of the Western Regional Directorate of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, in an interview with Interfax-Ukraine, the State Border Guard Service no longer accepts e-documents in the Diia app when crossing the border.

What happened and which documents are affected by the restriction is described below.

We have previously told you more about the current rules for entering Ukraine and customs restrictions.

Why does the Border Guard Service no longer accept e-documents?

According to Ihor Matviychuk, SBGSU employees discovered that the software of the Diia app had been tampered with and that it contained fake documents.

Thus, when trying to cross the border, the man claimed to be a father of many children, providing the border service with three birth certificates in the Diia app as confirmation. However, during the inspection, it turned out that the man was trying to deceive SBGS officers by showing fake documents in a fake application.

This was the reason why the Border Guard Service of Ukraine restricted the use of the app when crossing the border. However, as Matviychuk notes, this does not mean that SBGS employees have abandoned the use of the app altogether.

What e-documents can be used when crossing the border?

According to Matviychuk, employees can accept e-documents confirming the presence of a disability, but a passport can only be used to identify a person, not to cross the border directly.

It is also worth noting that Ukrainian citizens can provide an e-document confirming their pensioner status, including an electronic pension certificate, when crossing the border.

Please note! According to the law on e-passports, digital documents cannot be used to cross the border!

The passport in the Diia application can only be used for identification purposes, but it cannot be used to cross the Ukrainian border (unless a citizen is required to provide proof of identity when entering Ukraine). The same applies to other identity documents.

If you are planning to leave Ukraine by car, you should take care of obtaining a Green Card policy in advance, because without it, your car will not be allowed to cross the border. You can buy car insurance quickly and profitably on the Visit Ukraine website.

We remind you! The Verkhovna Rada registered a draft law amending the rules of border crossing during martial law. The document proposes to allow all men to travel abroad for money. Read more about the conditions offered to persons liable for military service in our previous article.
