Bond's 0007 and 7777: Ukraine records record demand for car VIP number plates
The demand for VIP car number plates, in particular such exclusive combinations as the "Bond" 0007 and 7777, has hit record highs in the vehicle market. Find out more about the cost of an elite license plate in Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale war, Ukrainians have shown an increased interest in status vehicles. Recently, there has been an increase in demand for luxury cars, which has led to the popularity of exclusive (VIP) license plates. This is stated in the EP research.
Here's why the demand for cars with VIP license plates has increased.
Ukrainians are increasingly interested in VIP license plates: latest statistics
Based on the analysis of open data on vehicles and their owners, it was found that in August and October 2023, more than 800 new or imported used cars with VIP license plates were registered monthly.
There are now about a hundred "elite" or "status" license plates, with the most popular being those that include a combination of four identical digits, with 7777 being the obvious leader. More than a thousand cars registered over the past five years have been chosen with this combination.
What is the cost of an elite license plate in Ukraine?
Getting a prestigious license plate is not cheap: you have to pay UAH 600 to register a vehicle with a regular license plate, but for license plates with four identical digits, the cost increases to UAH 30 thousand at the main service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The price is also 30 thousand hryvnias for consecutive combinations from 0001 to 0009.
Previously, VIP license plates were not available to the general public, as the MIA did not provide official access to all available plates for a long time, keeping the most desirable combinations to create artificial demand. Therefore, there were intermediaries on the market who offered such license plates for 3-4 thousand dollars.
However, at the end of 2021, the main service center of the Ministry of Internal Affairs launched an online system for checking available license plates in real time, which contributed to increased sales and de-shadowing of the market.
After February 24, 2022, the demand for VIP license plate decreased, but began to recover again after the Russians were expelled from Kyiv.
In 2023, there was an absolute record for sales of such plates, even though sales of new cars decreased significantly compared to 2021.

The most popular VIP license plate in Ukraine
Among the most popular license plates in 2023 are combinations with seven, in particular 0007, which was chosen by 145 owners in January-October. The second most popular is 9999 (123 registrations compared to 80 in 2021).
Traditional elite numbers, such as 7777, 0001, 8888, have more than 200 registrations each, but less than in 2021, possibly due to a shortage of such numbers.
It should be noted that during the war, Ukrainians also show interest in expensive cars. There are various reasons for this phenomenon, including increased purchases of premium brands and the impact of corruption.
