Controlling refugees and reducing benefits: Norway to tighten requirements for Ukrainians' stay
The Norwegian government has decided to tighten control over the arrival and stay of Ukrainians on its territory, as well as to reduce financial assistance for this category of persons. Find out more about the changes that are expected
The Norwegian government has expressed its intention to tighten control over the arrival of refugees from Ukraine by amending the conditions of their stay.
According to Schengen Visa Info, this decision is intended to reduce the number of newly arrived Ukrainians, as there is already a shortage of resources to provide adequate conditions for all those in need of assistance in Norway.
Conditions for Ukrainian refugees in Norway will be further tightened: details
At a press conference, representatives of the Norwegian government, Minister of Labor and Social Inclusion Tonje Brenna and Minister of Justice Emily Mel, announced plans to change the conditions of stay for Ukrainians.
The main purpose of the updates is to reduce financial assistance to refugees, in particular those who live in private homes rather than in special centers.

Who will have their benefits reduced in Norway?
It is noted that Ukrainians living in private homes will no longer receive financial assistance. It is also planned to reduce support for couples of childless Ukrainians by about 6,000 kroner per month.
In addition, to receive a one-time financial assistance of 93,000 kroner (8,200 euros), you will need to reside in Norway for at least a year.
The head of the Ministry of Justice explained that these measures are necessary to control the flow of refugees to the country. Today, Norway hosts more than half of the Ukrainians among all Scandinavian countries.
An important element of the strategy is to encourage refugees to integrate, in particular through active participation in immigration courses and job search. The government is also exploring the possibility of linking the provision of certain services and social benefits to the length of stay of Ukrainians in the country, but specific details are still being discussed.
