Switzerland continues to support Ukrainians forced to flee the war. And one of the forms of support for refugees is the registration of cars in Switzerland free of charge. How to do this and what documents are required is described below in the article with a link to uainfo.eu.

Read more about the rules for using a car with Ukrainian registration in Switzerland here.

How to register a car in Switzerland?

To register a vehicle with Ukrainian license plates in Switzerland, you need to contact one of the Federal Asylum Centers (BAZ) and submit an application and a package of documents.

After that, the BAZ will forward the submitted documents to the Federal Office of Road Transport (FEDT), which will review the application. After the decision is made, the Ukrainian will be able to pick up the new license plates for the car.

Only those Ukrainians who have been granted temporary protection in Switzerland can register a car for free.

Documents required for car registration in Switzerland

When applying to the BAZ, the following documents must be attached to the application:

– passport or other identity document;

– a document confirming entry into Switzerland;

– a document confirming the ownership of the car.

Remember that in order to travel freely in Switzerland and 48 other countries of the world by car, the driver must have a Green Card insurance policy. The absence or delay of insurance is fraught not only with fines that are several dozen times higher than the cost of the insurance policy for a year, but also with the seizure of the car and deportation from the country with a subsequent ban on entry. You can take out insurance for the required period on our website. Read more about the amount of fines in Europe for not having a Green Card here.

We remind you! Delivery of driver's licenses abroad has become available in five more foreign countries. In total, Ukrainians can use this service in 22 European countries. Read more about where you can order a license and the cost of the service in our previous article.
