Mariupol is a city turned into ruins by the russian invaders, and its residents are witnesses to a real genocide of the Ukrainian people. In memory of those who died and for the benefit of the survivors, a charitable project was initiated in the form of a guidebook - a route of memory. Find out more about the initiative and how to support IDPs from Mariupol
A full-scale russian invasion turned a half-million prosperous industrial city into deadly ruins.
According to Dmytro Zabavin, a deputy of the Mariupol City Council, the total number of dead Mariupol residents who became victims of the occupiers may reach 100,000. About 300,000 left the city, and around 100,000 remained.
tTravel, together with Sho Tam Robyty and a team of volunteers, launched a project to support people who have survived the horrors of the blockade and occupation of Mariupol.
The author of the Sho Tam Robyty blog, Pavlo Klochko, visited Mariupol a few months before the full-scale invasion. But he did not manage to publish the itinerary until the full-scale russian invasion started. In memory of those who fell and for the good of those who survived, they initiated a charity project to capture a moment and emotions of the city before the full-scale invasion in the form of an itinerary – “an itinerary of remembrance”.
The itinerary includes location coordinates, photos, and stories of places that used to bring bright memories for its citizens and tourists. It is available in four languages: Ukrainian, English, Italian, and German.
To get access to the guide, users need to log in to the system and donate $30. All donations are directed to I am Mariupol – a support center network for Mariupol internally displaced persons throughout Ukraine.
The project launch took place on March 5, 2024. Since then, it has been supported by I am Mariupol, United24, and SATD (State Agency for Tourism Development of Ukraine). The last presented the project at the world's largest tourism conference ITB Berlin, which took place from March 4th to 6th 2024 in Berlin.
