For security reasons, the National Multisubject Test (NMT) will be held in Ukraine for the third year in a row instead of the External Independent Testing (EIT). This type of testing includes four online blocks in various subjects and is conducted within one day, life.pravda reports.

As you know, every year the NMT is supplemented by changes, in particular, in 2024, the history of Ukraine returned to the list of compulsory subjects, and elective subjects - Ukrainian literature and geography - were added.

When will the testing take place this year and what should applicants know? Read on in the article.

NMT 2024: test dates

The main testing session will be held from May 14 to June 25, and the additional session will be held from July 11 to 19. Participants who missed the main session for valid reasons will have the opportunity to take the test during the additional session.

The National Multisubject Test is conducted in one day in four subjects, which is a significant burden for participants, but it is the only way to take the test in the main session. In case of unforeseen circumstances, or in case of absence for valid reasons, participants can take the test during an additional session.

Registration for participation in the NMT lasts from March 14 to April 11, 2024 and is carried out online through the electronic cabinet on the website of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA), as well as through the Diia system.

Each participant will be able to find out the specific date and place of the exam in their electronic account on the website of the UCEQA no later than 10 days before the test.

Where will NMT 2024 be held?

NMT in Ukraine

The National Multisubject Test will be held in temporary examination centers (TECs), which will be located both within Ukraine and abroad. These centers will be located in classrooms of educational institutions equipped with computers with Internet access.

NMT participants will be able to find out the exact address of the exam center through an invitation that will be available in their personal electronic account by May 8 (in the case of the main session). This will be the closest center to the city that the applicant indicated during registration.

On the day of the test, participants should arrive at the test center at 10:00 a.m., and the last acceptable arrival time is 10:50 a.m.

NMT abroad

As for those who were forced to leave the country, they will have the opportunity to take the test in such countries as Poland, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States and 24 others. The Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment (UCEQA) is also negotiating with countries such as Spain, Moldova, and the Netherlands to organize testing. The number of countries on this list may increase as negotiations are still ongoing.

NMT for graduates from the occupied territories

Persons from the occupied territories will not be able to take the National Multisubject Test (NMT) in the occupied territories.

However, there is an alternative for applicants from the temporarily occupied territories: they will be able to enter Ukrainian higher education institutions without having to take the NMT. To do this, they will need to conclude an agreement with the educational institution on education within three months of starting their studies. This process will take place under a special procedure aimed at ensuring access to education for all citizens, regardless of their place of residence.

What subjects will be included in the NMT-2024: a list 

The National Multisubject Test in 2024 will be taken by all graduates of educational institutions who plan to enter a bachelor's degree program. In addition, bachelors of medicine will take the test before entering a master's program.

This year, NMT participants will complete tasks in four subjects. Three of them are compulsory:

• Ukrainian language;

• Mathematics;

• History of Ukraine.

The fourth subject can be chosen from the following list:

• Ukrainian literature;

• Foreign language (English, German, French, Spanish);

• Biology;

• Physics;

• Chemistry;

• Geography.

Participants must indicate the subject of their choice when registering for participation in the NMT.

Please note! There will be no trial testing this year, as in the previous two years. Instead, the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assessment offers to study demonstration versions of the NMT in each subject. Additional practice tests based on previous years' tests are also available and can be taken online.

The test specifications are as follows:

• Tests in Ukrainian language, Ukrainian literature, Ukrainian history, biology, chemistry and geography will contain 30 tasks each.

• There will be 22 tasks in mathematics, 20 in physics, and 32 in foreign languages (English, Spanish, German, French).

The test will be held in two stages. During the first stage, they will complete tasks in the Ukrainian language and mathematics, and during the second stage - in the history of Ukraine and a subject of their choice.

Applicants will have the opportunity to choose the order of the blocks, but the subjects within the same block cannot be changed. Each of the stages will last 120 minutes (one hour per subject), with a 20-minute break between them.

The Ukrainian language tests have the following structure:

• 10 tasks with one correct answer out of four;

• 15 tasks with one correct answer out of five;

• 5 matching tasks.

A maximum of one point can be obtained for the first 25 tasks, and four points for the next 5 tasks. The maximum score for the Ukrainian language test is 45 points. There will be no tasks with written short or detailed answers.

In Ukrainian literature, the number, types of tasks, and distribution of points will be the same.

There will be 22 tasks in math:

• 15 tasks with a choice of one correct answer;

• 3 matching tasks;

• 4 tasks with a short answer.

The first 15 items will be worth a maximum of one point each, the next 3 items will be worth three points each, and the short answer items will be worth two points each. The maximum number of points for the math test is 32.

You are allowed to use reference materials and drafts during the test.

Tests in the history of Ukraine will have the following structure:

• 20 test tasks;

• 4 matching tasks;

• 3 tasks to establish the correct sequence;

• 3 multiple-choice questions with three answers out of seven.

Each of the 20 test items will be assessed for one point. The 4 matching tasks will be worth a maximum of 4 points, and the next 6 tasks will be worth 3 points each. The maximum score in the history of Ukraine is 54. The tasks will cover the period from the second half of the 16th to the beginning of the 21st century.

Geography tests will consist of 30 tasks:

• 20 tasks with one correct answer;

• 4 tasks with a short detailed answer;

• 6 tasks with a choice of three answers out of seven.

For the first 20 tasks, you can get a maximum of one point each. For the detailed answers, two points each, and for the last 6 tasks, 3 points each. This part of the test will be worth a maximum of 46 points.

There will be 30 tasks in biology:

• 24 multiple-choice questions;

• 4 matching tasks;

• 3 tasks with a choice of three answers from three groups of options.

The 24 single-answer tasks will be assessed with a maximum of one point each. 4 matching tasks will be worth four points each. The last 3 tasks are worth three points each. The maximum score for the Biology test is also 46 points.

The Chemistry test includes 30 tasks:

• 22 tasks with one correct answer;

• 2 matching tasks;

• 6 tasks with a short answer.

For the first 22 tasks, you can get a maximum of one point each. The next 2 are worth a maximum of 3 points each, and the last 6 are worth a maximum of 2 points each. The total maximum number of points will be 40.

Test participants will have the opportunity to use reference materials and drafts while completing chemistry tasks.

The topics to be used in the preparation of tasks in each subject will correspond to the EIT program.

The physics test will include 20 tasks:

• 12 multiple-choice questions;

• 2 matching tasks;

• 6 tasks with a short answer.

For the first 12 tasks, you can get a maximum of one point each. For the next 2, a maximum of 4 points each, and for the last 6, a maximum of 2 points each.

Test participants will also have the opportunity to use reference materials and drafts when completing physics tasks.

As for foreign languages, there will be 32 tasks in English, French, German or Spanish:

• 11 matching tasks;

• 5 test tasks;

• 16 tasks to fill in the gaps in the text.

All types of tasks will be worth one point each. Therefore, the maximum total number of points for a foreign language unit is 32. There will be no tasks with short or detailed written answers.

Break between test blocks

During the break, participants will have 20 minutes to have a snack and use the restroom. It will not be possible to go outside, but they will be able to leave the room. The use of gadgets during the break will also be prohibited.

If an applicant needs to go to the restroom during the test, the time allotted for the test will not be stopped.

After the break between the test blocks, no changes will be allowed to the answers in the tasks of the first two blocks.

When will I know the results of the NMT?

You will be able to get your test scores for each NMT block instantly on your computer screen after completing all the tasks. The exam results, converted to a scale from 100 to 200 points, will be available in your personal account on the website of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality until July 2 (for the main session) and July 26 (for the additional session).

As for the conversion of test scores into rating scores, this can be done using a special table. In order to consider the NMT passed, it is important to score the minimum "threshold" in each subject. Here are the minimum test scores you need to get in each subject:

• Ukrainian language - 7 points out of 45;

• Mathematics - 5 points out of 32;

• Ukrainian history - 8 points out of 54;

• Ukrainian literature - 7 points out of 45;

• in a foreign language - 5 points out of 32;

• Biology - 7 points out of 46;

• Physics - 5 points out of 32;

• Chemistry - 6 points out of 40;

• in geography - 7 points out of 46.

Different specialties have different coefficients for the results of each block of NMT. With the help of these coefficients, you can determine which subjects are more important for admission to a particular specialty.

What should I take with me to the test?

You should have the following with you for the NMT:

📌 Passport, ID-card or international passport (it is advisable to have documents from Diia as well).

📌 Paper or electronic certificate of participation in the NMT (you can download it from your account on the UCEQA website after checking your registration documents).

📌 A pen of any color for taking notes in the draft.

📌 A snack and an unlabeled water bottle.

Attention! It is forbidden to bring any gadgets, such as phones, smartwatches, headphones, calculators, cameras, flash drives, and other electronic equipment to the NMT exam. This is important because in previous years, there have been cases where applicants have tried to use gadgets to cheat, which could lead to the cancellation of their results.

Participants will be able to leave personal belongings that are prohibited during the test in a designated storage area in the classroom. There will be instructors who will talk about organizational issues and provide drafting sheets. You will be able to make any notes on these sheets that you can take with you after the test.

Reference materials, such as math, chemistry, and physics tables, will be available on the work computers in special tabs. However, you will not be allowed to use your own notes during the exam.

Actions during an air raid 

Testing during the air raid will be stopped and will continue only after the air raid is over and participants and staff return to the classrooms. If a test taker has already started testing, they will be able to continue from the same place where they left off.

If the air raid lasts longer than expected, participants will have to take the test in an additional session. Recommendations on time limits during the alert will be provided to test center staff.

NMT 2024: what do applicants need to know?

It is important to keep the following steps in mind for admission:

📚 Registration in a personal electronic cabinet: starting from July 1, applicants will have to register their personal electronic cabinets on the website of the Ukrainian Center for Educational Quality Assurance.

📚Use of test results: for admission, it will be possible to use certificates with the results of NMT 2023 and 2022 or a certificate of EIT 2021. This applies to all specialties.

📚 Creative competition for some specialties: applicants for creative and sports specialties, in addition to testing, can pass a creative competition.

📚 Submitting applications to higher education institutions: applicants will have the opportunity to submit up to fifteen applications to higher education institutions: five applications for a budget and up to ten for a contract.
