Estonia allowed to exclude Ukrainian children from schools and kindergartens

It is noted that this decision will apply only to those families who have left Ukraine without notifying educational institutions of their departure.

According to the amendments, children who live outside the country and do not attend a local educational institution may be excluded on the basis of an application from their parents.

The new provision provides for the possibility of expelling schoolchildren from Estonia if their place of residence is not registered in the population database.

Additionally, the law will now contain a full list of reasons for expelling children from kindergartens or vocational schools, which was previously absent. This initiative is aimed at improving the education system and ensuring proper conditions for all children.

In addition, starting from September 1, all schools in Estonia that previously conducted classes in russian will switch to teaching in Estonian. This change will also affect Ukrainian children studying in the country who previously attended classes in their native language. With the start of the new school year, these students will also have to switch to studying in the state language of Estonia.

We remind you!
Children of Ukrainian refugees have the right to study in Czech schools. However, the Czech authorities have announced the introduction of new rules. Find out more about what will change and who will be affected by the updates.
