Easter is an extremely bright holiday that you usually want to spend with loved ones. On this day, most Ukrainian families visit churches and gather at the festive table. However, this year's spring spoils us with warmth and sunshine, so maybe it's worth putting all the work aside and enjoying yourself and your loved ones with a real holiday vacation?

Ukraine is famous for its rich cultural heritage and picturesque landscapes, so in every corner of the country you can find an interesting place to spend the Easter weekend.

Still in doubt? We offer the top 5 popular places where you can celebrate Easter in 2024.

Kyiv

The main temple complexes of Ukraine are located in the heart of the country, in Kyiv. Therefore, all roads lead to the capital, even on Easter. In the morning, be sure to attend the festive service in the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra, Volodymyr's or Mykhailo's cathedrals. And after breakfast, go to one of the celebrations planned this year in the capital:

- Sofia Kyivska complex - on May 5, from 12:00 to 20:00, there will be a concert of folklore groups. As part of the event, spring and Easter songs will be played, spring games and dances will be held.

- The National Museum of Architecture and Life of Ukraine (Pyrogovo Museum) has prepared for visitors a real holiday on the Singing Field, the program includes traditional Easter fun, moving games, dances and freckles.

- An Easter concert will begin in St. Andrew's Church on May 5 at 4:00 p.m.

Lviv

The capital of Galicia attracts travelers all year round, but the truly unusual and festive atmosphere here is precisely during the holidays. And Easter is certainly no exception!

The main festive events and activities are held annually in Shevchenkivsky Grove. Usually, artistic and interactive events are held here, Easter carols are sung, workshops are held, and Easter meals are prepared.

This year's program of celebrations includes:

- May 5 – fun on the children's lawn, a holiday concert of ethnic groups, hayvka and Easter liturgy.

- May 6 – "Easter Traditions" excursion, as well as the singing of carols.

A perfect holiday weekend for the whole family!

Tourists who prefer a more relaxed vacation will be able to take a walk in Stryi Park or the Park of Culture, try Lviv delicacies in one of the city's restaurants, and visit the Easter exhibition of Easter eggs in the Mykhailo Hrushevskyi State Memorial Museum. This year's exhibition includes more than 200 author's works.

Ivano-Frankivsk

Easter is usually celebrated in Ivano-Frankivsk on a grand scale. The trees on Mickiewicz Square have already been decorated with 300 Easter eggs made by local schoolchildren, and themed photo zones have been built on Lesya Ukrainka Street.

The Easter program in Ivano-Frankivsk in 2024 will include:

- May 5 – Easter parties will be held near the Church of the Annunciation.

- On May 6, the theatrical festival "And the bells rang on Easter!" will be held near the Church of St. Nicholas, an exhibition of artistic works will be held near the Town Hall, and the musical and patriotic program "Melody of the Native City" will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Vichev Maidan.

Also, on holidays, bells will ring in the city, which will add even more color.

When you are tired of the festivities, go to one of the cozy and interesting restaurants of the city, where you can enjoy local cuisine. And Ivano-Frankivsk is very beautiful, so here you can have plenty of walks and enjoy your vacation.

One of the most original museums in Ukraine, which is worth visiting on Easter, is located 60 km from Ivano-Frankivsk - the Museum of Easter Eggs in Kolomyia.

The institution's building has an unusual shape - a large glass Easter egg. Here you will find about six thousand Easter eggs from different parts of the world. Among the exhibits there are even Easter eggs with autographs of famous people.

An All-Ukrainian festival is also held in Kolomyia, the program of which is full of folklore and ethnographic events: games, freckles, theatrical skits, choreographic compositions and thematic performances.

Uzhhorod

Uzhgorod is the heart of Transcarpathia and one of the cultural capitals of western Ukraine. This city combines unusual architecture (cathedrals in the middle of the city, Uzhhorod castle, pedestrian bridge over the river, embankment, historical and modern city squares), traditions and interesting cultural events.

This year, on Easter, the Museum of Folk Architecture and Life will host the exhibition "The World of Easter Eggs", which will feature 600 unique works of art. We advise you to attend this event after the festive service in one of the city's temples.

If you want to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of peace, go for a walk to the Uzh River. The blossoming cherry blossoms, which still decorate the streets of the city, will add color to your journey.

Both children and adults will enjoy a vacation in the capital of Transcarpathia.

Carpathians

If you decide to escape away from the cities, then we invite you to the Carpathians. Verhovyna and Vorokhta are ideal for a secluded vacation, because they are small mountain towns where you can visit real groves or eat paska on the banks of the Prut River.

And here you can traditionally celebrate Easter. In Verkhovyna, the liturgy and rite of consecration of the pasak begins at 2 o'clock in the morning and ends at 8 in the morning. This is a very strong and interesting action. Then, after coming from the church, have breakfast and go on a journey to the mountains, because in the spring the hiking season starts in the Carpathians.

You can go on a waterfall tour, take mystical photos of Spitsbergen on the Chornohora massif, conquer Hoverla or choose another route for tourists with any level of training.

One of the most popular options for active recreation for young people is rafting in the Carpathians. It is held on Cheremosh: Black Cheremosh, White Cheremosh and Prut.
