Ireland is again considering reducing social benefits for Ukrainians. This was reported by The Irish Times.

Earlier, the country had already made changes to the rules for refugees, and in the spring of 2024, the flow of migrants to the country fell sharply.

Irish authorities plan to cut payments to Ukrainian refugees: what is known

It is noted that Ireland has recently been very popular among Ukrainian citizens. But the number of people arriving there seeking asylum suddenly decreased in the spring of 2024.  These changes occurred after the country announced a reduction in social benefits and restrictions on living in public housing.

What other changes do they want to introduce for Ukrainians in Ireland?

The country is again considering reducing benefits. The authorities are already discussing a new cut in social assistance for Ukrainians. However, this idea is criticized by the Green Party, which points to the growing departure of Ukrainians from Ireland.

It is noted that after the reduction of payments in March 2024, Ukrainians will receive the following weekly allowance:

• 38.80 euros per adult;

• 29.80 euros per child.

Restrictions on staying in public housing have been reduced to 90 days. Meanwhile, those who arrived in Ireland before March 14 this year continue to receive 220 euros per week.

It is not yet clear whether the new restrictions will apply to those already in the country or will they be applied only to new arrivals.

It is also unclear how much the payments may be reduced, but the Irish government has stated its intention to take such measures.
