Due to the constant shelling and bombing of the frontline areas, particularly in Sumy and Kharkiv regions, local authorities have introduced evacuations. Some categories of Ukrainians are subject to forced evacuation.

Therefore, the government, together with UNICEF, made a decision that will allow for additional financial assistance for families with children from vulnerable categories who are evacuated from these regions. This is a new joint project of the Ministry of Social Policy and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) aimed at providing emergency additional support to such families. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Social Policy.

Financial assistance for evacuated residents of Kharkiv and Sumy regions: who is eligible?

Payments will be available to families with children who are subject to mandatory evacuation from May 1, 2024, and who lived in Sumy and Kharkiv regions before the evacuation and belonged to one or more of the following categories (received appropriate payments from the Ministry of Social Policy)

– the family includes a person or child with a disability under the age of 18;

– the family is large with children under 18 years of age;

– children are raised by a single mother/lone father;

– the family with children under 18 is low-income.

How much money are we talking about?

After evacuation, these categories of families will be able to receive a payment of UAH 10,800 per person in the family.

"That is, for example, a large low-income family of 5 people who will be evacuated from Sumy or Kharkiv regions will receive UAH 54,000 of additional financial assistance," the ministry explains.

It is noted that the financial assistance will be a one-time payment, and the duration of the payments will depend on the program budget.

How to get it?

If the family is evacuated by means organized by the UMA, there is no need to apply for this assistance, the payment will be made automatically.

If a family moves to a safer place on its own as part of a mandatory evacuation, after evacuation, it must contact the nearest social protection department in the community to which it has moved and submit an application for payment on the spot.

The one-time financial assistance will be credited to the account of one of the family members receiving the assistance. The funds can also be received through Ukrposhta.

"As the war continues, thousands of families need immediate help to provide their children with everything they need. This is critical for vulnerable families with children who are being evacuated from the frontline communities in Kharkiv and Sumy oblasts. It is crucial that these families have all the tools they need to overcome the difficult challenges they face. We at UNICEF continue to work with the Government of Ukraine to provide this vital support," said Munir Mammadzadeh, UNICEF Representative in Ukraine.

We remind you! More than 4.5 thousand people have already been evacuated from the border communities of Kharkiv Oblast.
