The cheapest cities for holidays


Sofia, Bulgaria


Sofia, the capital of Bulgaria, offers a surprisingly affordable holiday for tourists. The city is famous for its historical monuments, such as the Alexander Nevsky Cathedral and the Hagia Sophia Church. Accommodation, food and transport are much cheaper than in other European capitals. For example, a dinner in a good restaurant will cost an average of about 10-15 euros, and a night in a mid-range hotel will cost about 40-60 euros.


Bucharest, Romania


Bucharest is a city of contrasts, where modern architecture is combined with historic buildings. Here you will find many museums, parks and palaces, such as the Palace of Parliament and Herastrau Park. The average cost of a dinner in a restaurant is 15-20 euros, and hotel accommodation is about 50 euros per night.


Riga, Latvia


Riga is a city with a rich history and beautiful architecture. The old town of Riga, with its narrow streets and picturesque buildings, is a magnet for tourists. You can find many affordable restaurants and hotels in Riga. The average cost of a dinner here is about 15 euros, and accommodation is about 50 euros per night. All in all, including weekend accommodation and meals, you can spend around 350 euros on a holiday in Riga.


Price = quality


Meanwhile, the British postal company Post Office has compiled its list of the cheapest cities. They noted that in 2024 Vilnius regained the title of the city with the best value for money. Its costs are more than 10% lower than those of Lisbon, which was ranked second, and less than half those of 18 other cities.


Lille, France, moved up seven places to third, helped by a 30% reduction in the cost of living.

The most expensive cities in Europe


According to the Post Office, Amsterdam (Netherlands) remains the most expensive city in 2024. A weekend there will cost a tourist about 780 euros. But the capital of the Netherlands is known for its rich cultural history, picturesque canals, and liberal atmosphere. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe, attracting millions of visitors every year.


Geneva, Switzerland


Geneva, like Zurich, is famous for its high prices. The city is a centre of international organisations and diplomacy. Here you can visit many museums, parks and Lake Geneva. The average cost of a dinner in a restaurant is about 50-70 euros, and accommodation costs from 150 euros per night. A weekend in Geneva will cost about 650 euros.


Oslo, Norway


Oslo is the capital of Norway, known for its high prices for all aspects of life. The city offers many cultural and natural attractions, such as the Viking Museum and Vigeland Park. Dinner in a restaurant can cost around 40-60 euros, and a night in a hotel can cost from 120 euros and up. A weekend for two here will cost about 660 euros.


Copenhagen, Denmark


Copenhagen is the lively capital of Denmark, known for its unique architecture and culture. The city attracts tourists with such attractions as Tivoli, the Marble Church and the Round Tower. The average cost of a dinner here is about 40-60 euros, and accommodation starts from 120 euros per night. A two-day holiday in Copenhagen can cost 675 euros.


Venice, Italy


The city shrouded in water has always been very popular with tourists. But at the same time, this city is considered one of the most expensive for holidays in Italy. Moreover, since 25 April, tourists travelling to Venice have to pay an entrance fee. In general, to spend two days in Venice, you will have to spend about 680 euros.
