Ukraine's first Scandinavian Therapy Garden, designed to help people with mental trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), has opened in Kyiv's Podil district. This was reported by the Kyiv City State Administration. The opening ceremony was attended by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Denmark to Ukraine Ole Egberg Mikkelsen, Danish architect and urban planner Mikael Colville-Andersen, Deputy Minister of Veterans Affairs of Ukraine Ruslan Prykhodko and First Deputy Head of the Kyiv City State Administration Mykola Povoroznyk.

Garden of Scandinavian Therapy: a new place for recovery

The Garden of Scandinavian Therapy implements research-based Scandinavian concepts of health and landscape design to help people suffering from mental trauma and the invisible wounds of war, including PTSD. This place was created to facilitate the process of rehabilitation and preservation of mental health, especially in the context of the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, which has affected the mental health of many citizens.

The Nordic Therapy Garden will not only help people in need, but will also raise awareness of mental health and innovative methods of supporting it. The Scandinavian concepts of health and landscape design implemented in this garden will serve as an example for other cities in Ukraine and will contribute to the development of similar projects.

Cooperation and support

The project was created with the cooperation of a Danish-Ukrainian design team and the support of more than 1,000 local volunteers and international partners. Mykola Povoroznyk thanked the partners for their cooperation and expressed hope that this is not the last such project in the capital. He emphasized that modern innovative ways to overcome mental trauma, embodied in such projects, will become an important tool in restoring the mental health of Ukrainians.

We remind you! A new pedestrian bridge from Obolonska embankment to Obolon Island has been opened in the capital. See what the new recreational location looks like, how to get there, and what you can see in our previous article.
