The Ukrainian Defence Forces launched a new strike on russian airfields on the night of 14 August. The facilities that the occupation army uses to park its aircraft were attacked by drones.

Four russian airfields were hit

The AFU General Staff on the evening of 14 August confirmed the information about the defeat of four russian military airfields at once. The Air Force and Special Operations Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine together with the Security Service of Ukraine and the Main Directorate of Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine were involved in this operation.

Objects were attacked in the Voronezh, Kursk and Nizhny Novgorod regions. The military airfields Khalino, Savasleika, Borisoglebsk and Baltimore were hit.

At these airfields are based army aviation, Su-34 fighter-bombers, Su-35 fighters and other military aircraft of the enemy.

The AFU General Staff notes that the main targets were compositions of fuel and lubricants and aircraft weapons. But the Ukrainian army is still refining the results of the attack.

Consequences of the strikes

Traditionally, the Ukrainians learn about the results of their air attacks, relying on the data of satellite images. So, according to images from the Borisoglebsk airfield in the Voronezh region, the drones hit the north-western part of the airfield. In particular, several hangars were destroyed.

Preliminary, there is a technical-operational part there, which is engaged in repair and maintenance of aircraft. In general, the Borisoglebsk airfield is home to Su-25, Su-30, Su-34 and Su-35 aircraft of the russian Air Force.

Meanwhile, a video has also appeared online showing the moment when the Savasleika airfield, where russian MiG-31K fighter jets, which are carriers of supersonic Kinzhal missiles, are usually based, was hit. The video footage shows that the drone landed directly on the aircraft car park. However, there is no concrete data on the consequences of the attack on the facility yet.

Ukrainian media, citing sources, claim that the attack was carried out to prevent the russians from using these airfields for strikes with guided bombs on the front line and Ukrainian cities.

Russian military bloggers have already dubbed this strike on the airfields as one of the largest since the beginning of russia's full-scale war against Ukraine.

We remind you! The russian army staged a new provocation at the occupied Zaporizhzhya nuclear power plant. In connection with which a fire was formed at one of the facilities. Why russia could have taken such a step and what Ukraine and the IAEA say, read here.
