Traffic is restricted on the border with Hungary: important information and alternative routes
The movement of cars and trucks on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border will be partially restricted for the next two weeks. Find out more about what the restrictions will affect and what are the other current crossing points
Traffic on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border, at the Chop-Záhony checkpoint, will be restricted for the next two weeks. This was reported by the State Customs Service of Ukraine.
Instead of five lanes, only two will be open, which will significantly affect the speed of clearance and passage of vehicles leaving Ukraine.
Why were the restrictions introduced?
The reason for this was the repair work on the road surface in the customs control zone. The process is part of the customs and border infrastructure modernization project.
This project is being implemented with the support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID). The main goal is to increase the efficiency of border crossing, improve conditions for drivers and modernize the checkpoint.
Given the partial restriction of traffic at the Chop-Zahony checkpoint, we should expect an increase in queues and delays, especially for trucks and cars.
Carriers and drivers are advised to take these restrictions into account when planning their travels or transporting goods across the border.

Alternative checkpoints on the border of Ukraine with Hungary
In order to avoid delays at the border, it is recommended to use other checkpoints on the Ukrainian-Hungarian border. Here are some alternative routes:
Luzhanka - Beregsurany checkpoint
One of the busiest checkpoints on the border with Hungary, located in Zakarpattia region. It is suitable for cars, buses and trucks. It can be used as the main alternative during repairs at the Chop-Záhony checkpoint.
Kosyno-Barabash checkpoint
This checkpoint is smaller, but less congested compared to “Chop - Zahony”. It is suitable for those who want to avoid long waiting times and need to cross the border quickly.
Vylok - Tisabeč checkpoint
Another affordable alternative for crossing the border with Hungary. It is relatively lightly used, especially for cars. Suitable for carriers who want to reduce waiting time at the border.
Please note! Before leaving, you should check the information about the current situation at the borders through official sources and queue monitoring services. This will allow you to plan your route and avoid delays at checkpoints.
In general, during the next two weeks, it is best to use one of the above-mentioned checkpoints to save time and avoid inconveniences while crossing the border.
Remember! It is not enough to have a passport and travel insurance to travel abroad by car. After all, crossing the Ukrainian border in your car requires the mandatory presence of Green Card car insurance. This policy guarantees compensation for all property damage and damage to health to third parties in the event of an accident and is valid in 46 European countries.
You can take out a Green Card insurance policy on our website. It is convenient, fast and safe. While it is not always possible to buy a GREEN CARD directly when leaving Ukraine, at a checkpoint. Firstly, it is more expensive. And secondly, not every checkpoint offers the Green Card.
Just a reminder. To get from Poland to France by car, you need to know not only the best routes, but also observe some peculiarities of traveling in Europe in general.
