What are the insurance requirements for foreigners when applying for a visa to enter Ukraine?

When applying for a visa, a foreigner must provide proof that he or she is the holder (or has the right to obtain) a valid medical/travel insurance policy valid in Ukraine and covering the period of stay in the country (the policy must provide coverage of at least EUR 30,000 or the equivalent amount in another currency), unless otherwise provided by the legislation or international treaties of Ukraine.

When considering an application for a multiple-entry visa, the availability of a health insurance policy valid for the period of the first planned trip to Ukraine is checked.

For more informationon how to obtain insurance for entry to Ukraine, please read our previous article.

Please note! Holders of diplomatic/service passports are exempt from this requirement. In addition, other insurance requirements apply to journalists and other media representatives travelling to Ukraine.

At the same time, given the martial law imposed in Ukraine and the risks posed by the full-scale invasion of Russia, we recommend that everyone take out medical insurance covering military risks when entering the country. This will help you to protect your life and feel confident when travelling as a tourist or performing diplomatic/official duties. Read our article to find out how such insurance works and what it covers.
