Visa application for foreigners: legal framework, types of visas and insurance requirements
Citizens of countries with which Ukraine does not have a visa-free regime, as well as those who plan to stay in Ukraine for a long time (more than 90 days), are required to obtain a visa. Laws that regulate visa issuance
- The Law of Ukraine ‘On the Legal Status of Foreigners and Stateless Persons’;
- Rules for issuing visas to enter Ukraine and transit through its territory;
- Procedure for confirming sufficient financial security of foreigners and stateless persons for entry into Ukraine, stay in Ukraine, transit through Ukraine and departure from Ukraine and determining the amount of such security;
Types of visas required to enter Ukraine
1) Transit visas (type B) - issued to foreigners travelling in transit through the territory of Ukraine, with the transit period not exceeding 5 days: single-, double- or multiple-entry visas with a maximum validity of 1 year.
2) Short-term visas (type C) - issued to foreigners who plan to stay in Ukraine for up to 90 days within every 180 days: single-, double- or multiple-entry visas with a maximum validity of 6 months;
What are the insurance requirements for foreigners when applying for a visa to enter Ukraine?
When applying for a visa, a foreigner must provide proof that he or she is the holder (or has the right to obtain) a valid medical/travel insurance policy valid in Ukraine and covering the period of stay in the country (the policy must provide coverage of at least EUR 30,000 or the equivalent amount in another currency), unless otherwise provided by the legislation or international treaties of Ukraine.
