The European Commission has released a new report on strengthening civil and military supplies, recommending that EU citizens prepare for possible crises by stockpiling three days' worth of essentials. In total, the document contains about 80 recommendations for short-, medium- and long-term actions. One of the authors of the document is Sauli Niinistö, former President of the Republic of Finland and Special Advisor to the President of the European Commission. What does this mean and what citizens should prepare for is described below.

What threats prompted these recommendations?

The report outlines a number of potential threats to the European Union. The main challenges are:

– Possible cyberattacks and sabotage from russia, China and “other attackers”

– Potential military attack on an EU member state

– Possible disruptions in the global economy

– Consequences of the climate crisis

– The risk of a new pandemic

What exactly is the advice to prepare?

The authors of the report pay special attention to the need to develop an “information campaign” and instructions for the population on how to provide themselves with basic necessities. The report also advises citizens on how to act in the event of chemical, biological or nuclear “incidents”.

According to the recommendations, each household should provide for itself:

– Food

– Medicines

– Hygiene products

All of these supplies should last at least 72 hours.

What additional measures does the European Commission propose?

To improve the EU's preparedness for possible crises, it is proposed to:

– Introduce a pan-European crisis preparedness day

– Create a special anti-sabotage network

– Establish more effective cooperation between national intelligence services and the EU intelligence center

– Invest in educational programs on cybersecurity, disaster risks and countering disinformation.

It should be noted that Spain was the last country to suffer from natural disasters, and shortly before that, large-scale floods spread across Poland and other European countries.

What systemic changes are envisaged?

Experts emphasize the need to:

– Develop legal mechanisms for access to encrypted data to combat terrorism and espionage

– Create a single European market for defense products

– Remove barriers to the purchase of weapons and military equipment

The authors of the report concluded that the EU is not sufficiently prepared for hybrid attacks by russia and possible destabilization of the situation in the European Union, which prompted the development of a comprehensive approach to ensure the safety of citizens.

We remind you, that the russian occupation authorities are actively seeking to spread their propaganda almost all over the world. However, the largest concentration of kremlin narratives is observed in the European Union. Read what methods russia most often uses to promote propaganda ideas in our previous article.
