How to get to Ukraine from Mexico in 2024: convenient routes, entry rules and useful tips

In the conditions of martial law, foreigners continue to visit Ukraine. According to official sources, more than 2.4 million foreigners entered the country in 2023 alone, and the number of tourists will be even higher in 2024.
However, in closed airspace, traveling to Ukraine has its own peculiarities. It is also necessary to observe certain safety rules during the trip.
How to get to Ukraine from Mexico? What rules for entering Ukraine are relevant in 2024? Useful information for those planning a trip this year is collected in our material.
Flight from Mexico to the Ukrainian border + train/bus
The most convenient and fastest way to get to Ukraine is to fly to one of the airports in Europe, which is located near the Ukrainian border, and from there continue the journey by land transport - by train or bus.
Ukraine borders Poland, Slovakia, Hungary, Romania and Moldova. There are flights to these countries from Mexico.
Mexico – Poland
Warsaw can be reached by flight from Cancun, Mexico City, Toluca, Tulum and many other Mexican cities, but only with a transfer, most often in Amsterdam, Paris and Milan. Ticket price starts at $500. Travel time is about 14 hours.
Krakow is one of the closest Polish airports to the Ukrainian border, where flights from Mexico are made. The distance from Krakow to Lviv is 328 km. You can get here on a flight from Mexico City, Cancun and Monterrey, but also only with a transfer in one of the European airports. The price of the ticket starts from 450 dollars. The travel time is 14 hours 35 minutes.

Mexico – Slovakia
There is no direct flight from Mexico to Slovakia. You can fly to Bratislava and Kosice only with transfers. The Slovak capital can be reached from Mexico City. Ticket price starts at $850. Travel time is about 20-30 hours.
However, it will be most convenient to come to the Slovak city of Košice. Flights fly here only with individual transfers, which include a change of airport. Travel time from 20 hours, ticket price from 1000 dollars.

Mexico – Hungary
From Mexico, you can get to Budapest, the capital of Hungary, but also only with a transfer. Departure from Mexico City, Cancun, Toluca and other cities of the country. Travel time from 14 hours, ticket price from 700 dollars.

Mexico – Romania
Only connecting flights are available to Bucharest. Departures are from Mexico City, Cancun and other cities. The price of the ticket is from 850 euros, the duration of the trip is from 15 hours.

Rules of entry for citizens of Mexico to Ukraine in 2024
● Visa. To enter Ukraine, citizens of Mexico need to issue a short-term visa (type C). This visa is issued to foreigners whose stay does not exceed 90 days in a 180-day period. It can be designed for single, double or multiple entry. Visa type C is most often issued for the purpose of tourism, for business trips or private visits.
- Where to issue?
To apply for a visa, it is necessary to apply to a foreign diplomatic institution of Ukraine with a complete package of documents no earlier than 3 months before the start of the planned trip.
- Documents required to obtain a visa to Ukraine
1. Passport valid for at least 3 months after the planned trip to Ukraine.
2. Visa application form.
3. Medical insurance with coverage in the amount of at least 30,000 euros valid on the territory of Ukraine.
4. Information on the availability of a sufficient amount of funds for a stay in Ukraine (bank account statements, salary certificate, ATM receipts, etc.).
5. One photo 35x45 mm.
6. A document confirming the payment of the visa fee ($65).
7. A document confirming the purpose of the trip to Ukraine.
- How to confirm the purpose of entering Ukraine?
To justify the purpose of entry, use one of the following documents:
- a notarized invitation from citizens of Ukraine - relatives, acquaintances, friends, etc.;
- hotel reservations, apartment rental contracts;
- invitations/tickets to seminars, exhibitions, fairs;
- documents on treatment in medical facilities;
- written confirmation of a meeting, conference, etc.;
- invitations from companies and organizations;
- visa or tickets to a third country (to justify the purpose of the trip "transit to a third country").
If the planned period of stay in Ukraine exceeds 90 days or you plan to work, get an education in Ukraine, etc., then for such a trip you need to have a type D visa. After arriving in Ukraine on the basis of a long-term visa, a foreigner must obtain a residence permit.
