The rise in prices for basic foodstuffs in Ukraine in recent months has increased the financial burden on households. The situation in Europe is somewhat different. Find out how much a holiday basket will cost on average in Ukrainian and European stores
The festive season is a time of joy, treats and gatherings with loved ones. However, in 2024, amid inflation and rising food prices, the holiday basket is becoming a significant expense for many families. The RBC-Ukraine information portal has compared the cost of basic products in Ukraine, Poland and Germany.
Prices for basic products in Ukraine
From October 2023 to October 2024, inflation in Ukraine was 9.7%. In autumn, prices for eggs, buckwheat, dairy products, sunflower oil and borscht vegetables rose significantly. The main reason for this was an increase in energy prices. In October, monthly inflation was 1.8%, with food prices rising by 3.2%.

▪️ Sunflower oil (1 litre): 66 UAH
▪️ Beef tenderloin (1 kg): 302 UAH
▪️ Tangerines (1 kg): 84 UAH
Prices may change during the holidays, but supermarkets traditionally offer discounts and promotions on popular products.

Food prices in Poland
In Poland, inflation for the year was 6.6%. The average consumer basket will cost 288.99 zlotys (2,889.90 UAH). Prices for milk and pork are lower than in Ukraine, but chicken, eggs and buckwheat are more expensive. The best deals can be found in Lidl and Biedronka chains.

Food prices in Germany
In Germany, inflation was only 2%, but the cost of certain products increased by 10-30% over the year. The country is known for relatively affordable prices for milk and potatoes, but meat products are much more expensive. The lowest prices can be found in Aldi, Lidl, Penny and Netto.

Is it cheaper in Ukraine?
The cost of a holiday basket in Ukraine is on average lower than in Poland and Germany, which is explained by the level of income and the economic situation. However, the rise in prices for basic foodstuffs in Ukraine in recent months has increased the financial burden on households. In Poland and Germany, holiday purchases are more expensive, but due to high incomes, these costs are easier to bear.
