Citizens of Ukraine will be able to use public transportation without paying for it throughout 2025.
According to the decision, Ukrainians will be able to receive a 99% discount on the purchase of fixed-term electronic tickets for buses and trolleybuses. Thus, the fare for them will remain symbolic. To take advantage of this benefit, you must have:

Context and significance of the initiative
Since the beginning of Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022, Lithuania has become one of the European countries that actively supports Ukrainians. Lithuanian cities, including Vilnius, Kaunas, Klaipeda, and others, have introduced various assistance programs for Ukrainian refugees. These measures include housing, humanitarian support, social programs, and privileges for using public transportation.
The Kaunas Municipal Council notes that the extension of free travel is intended not only to ease the financial burden for Ukrainians, but also to facilitate their integration into Lithuanian society. The reduced fare makes it possible to use public transportation without hindrance to find work, study and other important matters related to adaptation to new living conditions.
Lithuania as an example for others
The decision of Kaunas and other Lithuanian cities to continue providing benefits to Ukrainians shows a high level of support and humanity. It also sends an important signal to other European countries that may follow suit to make life easier for those affected by the war.
The extension of free travel for Ukrainians in Kaunas for 2025 is not only financial support, but also a symbol of friendship between the peoples of Lithuania and Ukraine. This initiative demonstrates how concrete solutions can help build trust and cooperation between states in times of crisis.
We remind you! The Ukrainian government has announced the launch of a pilot project to return refugees from abroad.
