From January 2 to January 31, 2024, 78 Christmas tree collection points will be open in Kyiv, located in every district of the city. This number is almost twice as many as last season. All the collected trees will be recycled and subsequently used in the green economy of the capital. This was announced by Oleksandr Voznyi, Director of the Department of Environmental Protection and Climate Change Adaptation of the Kyiv City State Administration.

“This year we have significantly increased the number of collection points to 78 to make this process more convenient for Kyiv residents. The locations will be placed in parks, squares and on the territory of public utilities. After the holidays, we urge everyone who has set up live Christmas trees to hand them over for recycling,” said Voznyi.

Yuriy Bakhmat, Director General of Kyivzelenbud, emphasized the importance of environmentally friendly recycling of Christmas trees.

“Each tree taken to the collection points will get a 'second life'. They are chopped into wood chips, which are used to mulch the holes of young trees. This helps to retain moisture in the soil and protect the roots from freezing in winter. It is important to remember that only live trees without decorative ornaments are accepted for recycling,” he emphasized.
