Since 2025, the rules for crossing the border of Moldova for vehicle owners have changed. Now, Ukrainian citizens who plan to enter the country by their own car must take into account the new requirements.

What changes have come into force?

According to the new rules, drivers crossing the Moldovan border are required to have a valid vehicle inspection certificate. This requirement applies to all categories of vehicles, including:

▪️ Cars;

▪️ Buses;

▪️ Minibuses used for passenger transport.

Important! In the absence of a technical inspection certificate, the border services of Moldova will refuse to allow the vehicle to enter the country.

Why were the changes introduced?

The technical inspection certificate serves as a confirmation of the vehicle's serviceability and compliance with safety standards. The introduction of this mandatory document is aimed at improving road safety and reducing the risk of accidents.

In Ukraine, such certificates are mandatory for commercial vehicles, such as buses and minibuses, so there will be virtually no changes for carriers. However, owners of passenger cars that have not previously been required to undergo a technical inspection should take care of it in advance to avoid any troubles at the border.

Recommendations for Ukrainian drivers

The State Border Guard Service of Ukraine (SBGS) urges Ukrainian citizens planning to travel to Moldova by car to take into account the new requirements. For a smooth border crossing, you need to make sure that

- You have a valid vehicle inspection certificate.

- The certificate meets the validity period and requirements established in Ukraine.

You should also remember to have insurance. To travel abroad by car, you will need an international insurance policy ‘Green Card’. You can get this insurance in a few clicks on the Visit Ukraine portal.

We remind you! Traffic rules have changed slightly in Ukraine. The innovations affected the cases of accidents involving two cars.
