An alternative to popular hubs: why should Ukrainians fly from Wroclaw?
More and more Ukrainians are choosing Wroclaw Airport for their trips from Poland. Find out what its advantages are, where you can fly from here, and how to get there conveniently from Ukraine
Since the beginning of the full-scale Russian war against Ukraine, Polish airports have become the main “window to the world” for Ukrainians. Most often, they choose Krakow or Warsaw for departure - due to their proximity to the border and the large number of flights. At the same time, there are more than a dozen passenger airports in Poland, and some of them may even be more profitable. One of these is Wroclaw Airport.
Most Ukrainians, when choosing a departure airport from Poland, often ignore Wroclaw due to its relative remoteness from Ukraine. However, this airport has many advantages - from lower airfares to convenient logistics and the tourist attractiveness of the city itself.
Read why Ukrainians should fly from Wroclaw in this article.
Advantages of Wroclaw Airport for Ukrainians
If we analyze the announcements of new flights from the largest European low-cost carriers - Ryanair and Wizz Air, we can notice a clear trend: it is Wroclaw that is actively expanding its route network. To stimulate demand, airlines often offer cheaper fares when departing from this Polish city than from Warsaw or Krakow.
For example, as of February 2026, Wizz Air sells tickets from Warsaw Chopin Airport to Catania (Sicily) on April 27, 2026 from PLN 179 (about UAH 2,170), while from Wrocław on the same date - from PLN 159 (about UAH 1,930). The difference is small, but with a flexible search it can reach tens of euros.
In general, one of the main tips for budget travelers is to be flexible in choosing the departure airport. In countries with developed rail connections, such as Poland, secondary airports often offer much more favorable fares.
So, a flight to Wroclaw or Poznań, even taking into account the train to the border, can be cheaper and more convenient in terms of time than a flight from the most popular Polish air hubs.

How to get to Wroclaw Airport?
Since Wroclaw is located quite far from Ukraine, many travelers ignore it as a transfer hub, but in reality such a trip will be longer by only a few hours, for example, if the duration of the trip Przemysl → Krakow is about 3 hours, then the trip Przemysl → Wroclaw is about 6 hours.
If tickets are purchased in advance (30 days in advance), the cost is approximately 230–280 hryvnias. Taking into account night trains, transfers, and possible delays at the border, Ukrainians can leave Kyiv in the evening and board a plane in Wroclaw the next day.

What to see in Wroclaw?
Wroclaw itself is one of the most beautiful cities in Poland with atypical architecture and rich history. If possible, it is worth staying here for 1–2 days. In the second half of the 20th century, it actively developed as a cultural and scientific center, and in 2016 it became the European Capital of Culture.
It is worth starting your acquaintance with the historical center. On the Market Square is the Old Town Hall - a Gothic monument of the 13th–16th centuries and one of the city's landmarks. Further, narrow streets lead to the Wroclaw University in the Baroque style, open to tourists. Inside – painted ceilings, gilding and an observation deck with a panorama of the city.
A must-see stop for a walk is the Odra River embankment and Tumski Island, the oldest part of Wrocław. Nearby are the remains of 16th-century fortifications and the National Museum of Wrocław.
A special “highlight” of the city is the Wrocław gnomes: more than 700 miniature bronze figures scattered throughout the city.
For families and nature lovers, it is worth visiting the Wrocław Zoo – the oldest in Poland, as well as the unique Africarium, where you can see the inhabitants of African water bodies. Opposite the zoo is the Hall of the Century – a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
If you have time, Wrocław will delight you with modern museums, gastronomy and a large Wroclavia shopping mall right next to the main railway station – convenient for short stops before a flight.
A separate plus is convenient access to the ski resorts of Lower Silesia.
Wroclaw Airport is an underrated but profitable alternative to popular Polish air hubs, because flexibility in choosing a departure city can significantly reduce travel costs and open up new tourist opportunities.
Planning a trip with transfers is easier on one service. On the Visit Ukraine portal, you can book tickets for several types of transport at once - air, rail and bus flights. This is convenient if you are traveling to Poland by train or bus, and then plan to depart from Wroclaw or another airport.
