New Ukraine-Moldova international border crossing point
Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova have signed a protocol supplementing the intergovernmental agreement on border crossing points, which has been in force since 1997. The document officially expands the list of international road crossings and provides for the new crossing to operate around the clock for passenger and freight traffic.
The signing creates the legal basis for opening the crossing and allows for funding to be allocated in the Ukrainian state budget. At the same time, infrastructure preparations are underway, which are being implemented on the Ukrainian side by the Agency for Reconstruction. Government delegations from both countries view this step as part of the long-term development of border cooperation.
How will the opening of the new crossing point affect the transport of goods and traveling citizens?
The launch of the new crossing point is of practical importance for exports and imports. An increase in the throughput capacity of freight transport is expected, which is important for companies operating through Moldova and Romania.
At the same time, participation in the European logistics initiative “Solidarity Routes” is intensifying. Expanding transport capabilities allows for
faster delivery of products and optimization of routes. The additional crossing also reduces the load on other border sections where queues had formed.
The new crossing point will serve both freight transport and passengers. This expands the choice of routes for private travel and international bus transport. The 24-hour availability of the crossing point should reduce waiting times at the border.
The government views the border as a component of economic stability and support for the population. In wartime, the border infrastructure serves as a logistics corridor for the movement of citizens and goods, so its expansion has been given strategic status for both states.

Temporary protection for Ukrainians in Moldova extended
Separately, the parties confirmed the extension of temporary protection for Ukrainian citizens in Moldova until March 1, 2027. An electronic mechanism for extending status has been introduced, which allows for the updating of data on the stay of displaced persons.
This format helps the state to plan resources more efficiently and maintain the reception system without overload. In previous years, documents were extended automatically, but some people left the country, so the records needed to be clarified.
