Volkswagen, BMW, and even Lamborghini: Ukraine's top 10 car brands in January
The Ukrainian car market has surprised us again: not only practical station wagons are among the leaders, but also old premium German cars, and even Ferraris and Lamborghinis are among the deals. January statistics show the real preferences of drivers — from the first budget car to the car of their dreams. Find out which brands and models were purchased most often
The Ukrainian car market continues to operate according to its own rules. While new electric cars are being purchased in Europe, our ‘secondary market’ is steadily growing, with clear favourites, predictable legends, and a surprisingly active premium segment. January only confirmed this: Ukrainians still love practicality, status, and time-tested models. This is evidenced by data from the Institute for Automotive Market Research.
Market leaders
Volkswagen was once again the absolute leader, with almost 10,000 deals per month. This is no longer just popularity, but full-fledged domination: in fact, every sixth or seventh car on the domestic market is of this brand.
In second and third place are BMW and Audi. Paradoxical, but true: the market for premium German cars in Ukraine remains extremely vibrant.
However, we are not talking about new cars from the showroom.
Average age:
BMW — about 16.5 years
Audi — about 16.1 years
In other words, buyers are realising a long-held dream: to get a premium car for the price of a new budget saloon. In fact, it's status for reasonable money.
Top 10 brands on the domestic market
1. Volkswagen — 9,991 deals
2. BMW — 5,065
3. Audi — 4,505
4. Renault — 4,464
5. Skoda — 4,402
6. Toyota — 3,993
7. VAZ/Lada — 3,889
8. Mercedes-Benz — 3,870
8. Ford — 3,655
10. Nissan — 3,210
The picture is typical: Europe, a little Japan, and the obligatory ‘classic’ in the form of Lada — as the cheapest entry into car ownership.

Model ratings
And here, too, there are no revolutions — the Ukrainian market has been stable for years.
The most popular models:
1. Volkswagen Passat — 2959
2. Skoda Octavia — 2550
3. Daewoo Lanos — 2289
4. Volkswagen Golf — 2236
5. BMW 5 Series — 1445
6. BMW 3 Series — 1368
7. Renault Megane — 1299
8. Audi A6 — 1177
9. Audi A4 — 1108
10. Ford Focus — 1079
The Passat and Octavia are essentially the gold standard for Ukrainians: spacious, inexpensive to maintain, and familiar to mechanics at any service station.
But the main phenomenon is the Daewoo Lanos.
Despite its age, it remains the main entry ticket to the world of car owners. Cheap to buy, cheap to maintain, and no shame in driving it — the formula for immortality.
The popularity of the BMW 3 and 5 series is particularly noticeable — drive and status for the price of a ‘people's’ car. Especially pleasant until the first repair.
Premium segment
Against the backdrop of the mass market, expensive exotic cars stand out.
In January, luxury cars were also actively resold within the country.
Porsche — 303 resales
Bentley — 11
Maserati — 15
Rolls-Royce — 4
Ferrari — 2
Aston Martin — 2
Lamborghini — 1 re-registration
For Ukraine, this is already almost a ‘popular premium’. Luxury cars do not stand idle — they have their own stable circle of buyers.
For Ukrainians planning to buy a car, it is important to consider insurance rules. After purchasing a car, whether new or used, it is important for owners not to forget about civil liability insurance. Civil liability insurance is a mandatory requirement for the legal operation of a vehicle on Ukrainian roads, and it is convenient to do this online, in particular through the Visit Ukraine service, without unnecessary visits to insurance company offices.
Reminder! In 2025, more than 10.8 million new cars were sold in the EU, and Germany once again became the largest market. Find out which countries are among the top five largest car markets in Europe and where the largest increases and decreases in sales were recorded.
