Ukraine is gradually preparing to resume full air traffic, and the country's main air hub has already announced that it is fully technically ready to launch flights. Find out under what conditions Boryspil will be able to accept the first flights and how soon planes will reappear in the Ukrainian sky
Boryspil International Airport is on high alert for the resumption of operations. Ukraine's main transport hub is ready to receive and dispatch regular flights as soon as the country's airspace is declared safe for civil aviation. This was reported by Telegraf with reference to the airport's press service.
Infrastructure and personnel preserved
According to the airport's press centre in response to a media inquiry, the company managed to preserve its key resources during the downtime. The company is actively preparing for the resumption of civil air transport.
To date, the technical base and infrastructure, qualified personnel, and all necessary certificates have been fully preserved. The airport has not lost its operational capacity and is ready for work.
‘We are at a high level of operational readiness when the relevant decision is made at the state level,’ emphasised the Boryspil press centre.
When will the first planes fly?
The possibility of launching the airport just 4-6 weeks after receiving permits is periodically discussed in the information space. Boryspil representatives confirm that they have the basis for such a rapid transition to the practical phase.
However, it is still too early to give accurate calendar forecasts. The decision to open the skies is not made by the airport management, but exclusively by state authorities and international partners, based on the real situation in the country.

The main condition is absolute safety
In order for planes to take to the skies of Ukraine again, a number of strict conditions must be met. First and foremost, this involves full confirmation of flight safety and the absence of threats to civilian aircraft, as well as compliance with international requirements for military risk management.
In addition, the most important factor for lessors and airlines is the existence of a functioning insurance mechanism for aircraft, passengers and crews, as well as the receipt of final approvals from all regulatory authorities.
Interest from airlines
Although the company has not disclosed details of the technical preparations (e.g., whether additional repairs to runways or facilities are required), it assures that a clear plan for launching operations is already in place. A significant portion of the processes related to personnel and documentation have already been completed.
As for carriers, international airlines continue to show steady interest in the Ukrainian market. The official list of companies that will be the first to return to Kyiv will be published after the airport actually resumes operations.
