Indexation of disability pensions in 2026: how much will payments increase from 1 March?
From 1 March 2026, disability pensions in Ukraine will automatically increase. The size of the allowance for the first, second and third groups directly depends on the length of insurance and basic age-related payments. The indexation will affect most citizens, but there are exceptions for those who have recently retired. Find out what the payment will be and how to correctly calculate the new pension amount
On 1 March 2026, Ukraine launched an annual pension indexation aimed at compensating for inflation and taking into account the growth in average wages. The Cabinet of Ministers officially approved a recalculation coefficient of 12.1%, which applies to most insurance payments. The process is automatic through the Pension Fund, so citizens do not need to submit additional applications or visit branches in person to receive the updated amounts. This was reported by UNIAN with reference to lawyers.
How the recalculation formula works
The indexation rate of 12.1% is determined according to a legislative formula that combines half of the inflation rate for the previous year and half of the average wage growth for the previous three years. This mechanism allows for the partial maintenance of pensioners' purchasing power. It is important to understand that the recalculation applies specifically to the basic amount of the insurance pension defined by Law No. 1058-IV, while some supplements may have a fixed amount and be revised by separate government decisions.

New amounts for groups I, II and III
The amount of disability benefits for civilians is directly linked to the old-age pension to which a person would be entitled if they had the required length of service. For the first disability group, the payment is 100% of such a pension, for the second group it is 90%, and for the third group it is 50%. For example, if the calculated old-age pension after indexation reached 6,726 hryvnias, then a person with a first group disability will receive a similar amount, a person with a second group disability can count on 6,053 hryvnias, and a person with a third group disability can count on 3,363 hryvnias. With a higher base of 11,210 hryvnias, the payments will be 11,210, 10,089 and 5,605 hryvnias for each group, respectively.
The increase will not affect all recipients. Indexation does not apply to pensions that were assigned or recalculated during the last twelve months prior to March 2026. Also, types of social assistance that are not insurance pensions and payments under special laws with a special review procedure are not subject to recalculation. In addition, citizens who receive the minimum guaranteed amount at the subsistence level may not notice any real increase if, after applying the coefficient, the calculated amount still does not exceed the minimum set by the state.
Features of payments for military personnel
For former military personnel, disability pensions are calculated based on their monetary allowance. After indexation, payments for them can be up to 100% of the allowance for the first group, 80% for the second and 60% for the third group.
The final amount of each payment remains individual, as it critically depends on the accumulated insurance period, official income level and the relevance of the data recorded in the registers of the Pension Fund of Ukraine.
Reminder! Recently, Ukrainian citizens have been able to purchase insurance periods for their future pensions or increase the size of their pensions. Ukrainians living abroad can also do this. Learn more about how to do this and how much you will have to pay.
