The travel industry is booming. In 2025, one European country welcomed 102 million visitors, confidently breaking its own record. Find out which country became the most visited in the world
In 2024, the Olympic Games in Paris helped France attract 100 million visitors. It turned out that this was not the limit: in 2025, the country broke its own record and confidently retained its status as the most popular tourist destination in the world, according to Euronews.
A record 102 million
According to official data, 102 million foreign travellers visited France last year. The vast majority of them were residents of other European countries. Tourists became more active in booking hotels and apartments, making a total of almost three-quarters of a billion overnight stays.
This influx of visitors brought a record €77.5 billion to the French economy. This is significantly more than in the year of the Olympics and far exceeds the income the country received before the pandemic.
Now the government has set itself a new goal: to earn €100 billion annually from tourism by 2030, with an emphasis on environmentally friendly and nature-safe holidays.

Competition with Spain
France's main rival in the battle for tourists is Spain. In 2025, it fell slightly behind the leader, welcoming almost 97 million foreigners. However, there is an interesting paradox here: despite the smaller number of visitors, Spain managed to earn more from them — a whopping €105 billion.
How France is saving itself from crowds of tourists
Any popular destination inevitably faces the problem of overcrowding. For example, in Spain, the huge influx of holidaymakers is having a significant impact on local residents: apartment prices are rising, infrastructure is wearing out, and the environment is suffering. Because of this, in some regions, such as Ibiza, the authorities have already had to tighten the rules for renting out accommodation.
France, on the other hand, is coping with this problem much more successfully. Its secret lies in competent planning, which began many years ago. The French have learned to distribute tourists to different parts of the country and attract them in different seasons. As a result, visitors do not flock exclusively to Paris in the summer, but travel throughout the country all year round, without creating a critical burden on cities.
