Europe remains one of the most attractive regions in the world to live and work in. Strong social systems, stable economies, high-quality healthcare, and high standards of education attract millions of people from different countries.

Every year, analytical platforms analyze countries based on key indicators to determine the best places to live and work. Such rankings assess not only income levels but also overall quality of life: safety, infrastructure, healthcare, education, and the real cost of living, including housing, food, and transportation.

According to the results of a study by the analytical resource RankingRoyals, Switzerland is the leading European country for living and working.

Switzerland is the best country in Europe to live and work

Switzerland ranks first thanks to its stable economy, high level of security, and one of the most efficient healthcare systems in the world. The balance between work and personal life, which is considered the norm here, also plays an important role.

On average, the country's residents work about 42 hours per week. At the same time, employees have four to six weeks of paid vacation per year, which allows them to maintain a healthy balance between career and leisure.

Another feature of Swiss work culture is respect for personal time. Finishing the workday on time is considered the norm here, not the exception.

However, life in Switzerland remains expensive. The average cost of living for one person is approximately $3,100 to $3,700 per month.

The main expenses are as follows:

● Rent in Zurich or Geneva — over $2,000 per month

● Public transportation — approximately $70–90 for a monthly pass

Food and living expenses are also significantly higher than in most European countries. At the same time, high costs are offset by salaries. In many areas, incomes here are 30–50% higher than in France, Germany, or Austria.

What is taken into account in quality of life rankings

When compiling the rankings, analysts evaluate a number of key indicators that directly affect people's daily lives. In particular, they analyze:

● the level of security;

● the availability and quality of medical services;

● the education system;

● transport and urban infrastructure;

● the cost of living;

● the balance between work and personal life.

Countries at the top of the rankings usually offer not only high salaries but also a comfortable living environment — from high-quality roads and public transport to ecology and social guarantees.

Despite the high standard of living, moving to another country always involves additional costs and organizational issues. For example, if you plan to travel around Europe or move by car, it is worth checking the road use requirements in advance. In many EU countries, an electronic road vignette is required to drive on motorways. You can apply for it online through the Visit Ukraine service — this will help you avoid fines and allow you to travel freely on European roads.

We remind you! The myth of general European prosperity is shattered by statistics: the financial gap between the West and East of the continent is enormous. Read about which countries topped the wealth ranking and which ended up on the list of economic outsiders.
